The alarm disables the ignition (ECU's).

You turn it off by unlocking the doors or trunk/boot (assuming you have a long alarm key - do a search to seee the difference). Seems you door locks aren't disarming the alarm - could be they are not connected in the doors (chopped?)

Do the door locks match the hatch lock ? if they have been changed it was possibly with non-alarm locks...?

Do you know if this is the stock alarm or aftermarket?

You can disable the alarm by unlocking the boot with the long key. If the same long key works on the doors, use it on them to unlock also. Unlocking with that key disables the alarm, whether it be boot or doors. Then just shut the boot after unlocking it.

Hey Alan, welcome.

If you're trying to fix it, follow the above advice.

If you just want it to shut up and let you drive it for now, there's a procedure in the owner's manual for disabling the alarm system. I think there are two pins that need to be jumpered in the '85. If you don't have the owner's manual I can look it up tonight if that's what you want to do for now.

BTW- Where are you from? How about some pics of the new car? A little history about it? Tell us more.

I didn't think it was in the owners manual - is it for early year cars?

Alan,

I thought it was in the owner's manual, but that wouldn't make sense would it? Maybe you're right, it probably would only be in the WSM. I'll check tonight and post the procedure.

On the Central Electric (fuse/relay) panel link pins B23 & F25. These are the pins on the right hand row of Plug B - 3rd one up (middle pin) and Plug F - 5th one up (top pin).

I thought you could just unlock the hatch to get it working...?
