Post 1993 GTS

Finally found the car of my childhood dreams (I think). 1993 GTS (5 Speed). 23,000 miles and looks (from the pictures) to be in imaculate condition. One owner car.

Owner is asking 46,800. He says firm. Your thoughts on price, issues, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

If you get the car, I would recommend changing the timing belt and rebuilding the tensioner. Remember that the belt is now close to ten years old, and if it fails, the engine is toast.

Sounds like a great car.

I believe I know the car you are speaking of, and it is very nice indeed.....but still a bit pricey for a '93. It also has been on sale for a little while now along with the price being reduced a few times. If it was me I would not pay over $43-$44K for it.....including a new
timing belt. There are a few dealers sitting on GTSs out there with lofty prices, but they often
sit there a LONG time. If the owner wants to sell it great, if he can sit on it for a long time your kinda stuck. You have to hang tight sometimes.....but more good ones will come along.

Thanks for the thoughts. It is indeed a premium example. Any specific prices any of you have seen recently? Is 43-44 the going rate?

Cool

Check out ebay and you'll find a '94 w/27700 miles for under that (currently at around $30000)
<img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> Might be a better deal, but you had better hurry if you want a PPI first, as only 2 days are left. <img border="0" alt="[bigbye]" title="" src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" />

The GTS on Ebay now sold about a month or so ago on Ebay for mid $30's if my memory serves me right. Now it is on a dealers site for
$49,900!!! Willhoit Enterprises is one of those
dealers that will sit on a car a LONG time to
get money out of it. Nice cars, but WAY overpriced IMO. Check it out.....

43K if the car needs no service IE; Timing belt done ect.

40K would be my high and even at that I'd have to fall in love with it BIG BIG BIG TIME.

These dealers that buy to re-sale at overpriced values should be made to sit on them till they pass out...refering to the EBAY car. If none of us buy them at inflated prices from dealerships...they'd have to drop but then again...I'm one to talk but I didn't know any better at the time.

Seriously...46K is too much even for the 4-speed.

I think the car is overpriced too. Price wasn't a big deal when I was shopping for my car. I could have spent the cash for a GTS. The problem I had was that the GT was a far better value. For far less than HALF the asking price on that car I bought an even more rare 89 GT. Would I like a GTS, heck yeah! Someday i will likely have one but, not as long as people like that try to keep prices artificially high. The GTS is an awesome machine, is it worth over 2x what a nice GT costs? I don't think so. I think I would try and get one for $40k tops.

One other thing to consider is that these cras prefer to be driven. That car has about 2000 miles per year on it. You may run into problems with it. I like to see a good 5-10k a year. My car was on the low end of that and so far seems to be trouble free. Good Luck, and hold out for a nice one at a good price.

Used cars priced above $40k in only appeal to a knowledgable buyer or an idiot with too much money on his hands. The average car buyer will not go near it. The economy has weeded out a lot of the dumb money, so this guys market is gonna be pretty much limited to informed buyers. The price is high unless thee are some really unusual circumstances. Wait the seller out a bit, till he gets reasonable.

Don't know if it's still available, but there has been a '94 GTS on both Devek's and 928SP's sites for $28,000.

I know it has a salvage title - and that subject has been discussed to death. If you're buying the car to keep, then this is a beauty.

Very funny Tim. I remember at least 5 GT/GTS he has done this dance with. Buy on ebay, shine it up, mark up $10K, let it sit till some sucker comes along. I actually bought my GT from under his nose on Ebay, he had a few bids on it, but I worked a deal out with the owner outside of Ebay and snatched it. If he would have bought it I know it would have shown up on his site for
$5-$7K more a few days later. I guess he would call it the "American" way.
