I have certainly seen Mr. Willhoit. I certainly don't have any intentions of purchasing one of his mark ups.

Giovanni, thanks for the offer on your 93, but I am pretty committed to a 5speed.

I wish the 93 GTS was mine :-)). I found the link on autotrader.com during one of my daydreaming episodes.

Hmm what can you get for 47K with 345 HP, and all that stuff we always talk about? Nothing. It's the best car ever for the price. Ever.

Maybe when I'm 50 and my Kids are out of college, GTSs will be 13K. I can wait.- Ruf

I know this is an old post. I got to it doing a search on "Willhoit"

I saw a nice GTS on ebay the other day and noticed last night no one had bid on it as of yet, I decided to email the seller.

1994 GTS

These are copies of my email to him, his response, my response, then his response...I'm done.

I don't know the guy (he did give me a few chuckles though), but NO WAY would I ever recommend him/them or even let them buy my car. If you do a Rennlist search for these guys, the same thing keeps popping up over many posts. I guess in some other world a guy like this would be a good thing for the 928 market, but that is just not this reality. Note that I did weight the pricing to my side

To all who are looking for a 928...this is to help you in your decisions.

They read....

Hi, in reference to your GTS, I am interested, but must be honest with you. It will be tough to get what ever you are asking for this MY car. If it were a 5 spd, then it is justifiable. I do not know what your knowledge of the 928 market is or if you are involved in the 928 community. Unfortunately, 928 prices have plumeted over the years and most unfortunately, the GTS's are following suit.

On the average, a mid to excellent range GTS is in the mid $20K's, it is not uncommon to see them hovering around $20K.

If you were interested in selling very near the $25K mark, I will pursue this transaction with you.

Thank you and I certainly hope you understand that my intentions are non offensive.

Perhaps you don't know who you are talking to !!! I've owned more 928's than anyone in the world. So perhaps you ought to do some more home work before you try to convince me of the current market. At $25k you can't buy a nice 91 GT..Good luck in your search..Michael

You know, when I sent this email, I figured one of 2 things.

The first being that I would get a respectable reply from someone who is intellegent enough to not even see offense in my query. If they felt that they could get more for the vehicle, they would thank me for the inquiry and courteously decline.

The 2nd, which is why I inserted the offense was not inteneded line, was just in case I was treading into the territory of a small membered seller.

I visited your site and HAVE looked up your name previously. Though some feel that your business is respectable and you folks are nice to deal with, there were more leaning towards the "take advantage of the unaware seller" syndrome. (Like jacking prices up well over 10K after you just purchased the car yourself off of eBay)

No worries to me, I know where not to recommend someone who is looking for a 928.

BTW, being a salesman that buys inventory for resale, does not make you an educated owner, it lends itself more to posing.

Good luck to you as well!

Last time I checked,I've been in business for 29 years and pay lot's of taxes sooooooooooooooooooooooooo I guess it's not against the law to make a profit in this country.Anyone who makes an offer of $25k on a car that's worth High thirties deserives the answer you got.The last thing I need is an education in the 928 market.Just save your money till you can buy a REAL 928 GTS for real money.Again, good luck in your search...MBW

What a jerk!

Buy an s4, MURPH it, and hand him his "REAL" 928 GTS for breakfast...
And toss some "real" money out the window as you go by, since you will
still have money left over...

Way to go Keith.......VERY entertaining!

Sad part is, I believe the guy actually sells a car or two at his prices. What amazes me is the rubes that fall for it. These are the same people that won't buy a car from an eBay auction from an individual........but will buy it from some slicky dealer for $10K higher. I guess they deserve what they get.......the big shaft.

All I know is that I had the last laugh with this guy........stole my pristine GT right from under him by talking personally with the owner and telling him what was going on. Basically Willhoit was telling the guy to sell the car cheap to him as they weren't worth anything and he could make a "few"
dollars off it. Made the owner mad as he was retiring and really wanted the car to go to a good owner for a fair price..........which of course was me!

Default new 94 GTS on the market

We just got a very nice 94 GTS 5 speed here on consignment yesterday, it is about 38K miles, has had a lot of maintenance done on it, including every seal and gasket done about 1 year ago. It is Iris Blue Metallic with Gray interior...absolutely immaculate. Also has some nifty upgrades, if anyone is interested please contact me directly, and there will be some photos going up on the web site soon.

Price is $40K, IMHO worth every penny.

More later,

Susan Thomas

I was just reading Willhoit's sales promise from their site. It reads as follows: "Willhoit Enterprises guarantees the epitome of professionalism in every aspect of the vehicle sales process". They also claim to "personally know every vehicle they represent". A little contradictory to what I'm reading here and seeing on E-Bay. Clichés such as "Let the Buyer Beware" and "There's a Sucker Born Every Minute" exist and perpetuate for a reason. I guess If I had unlimited funds and saw something I wanted, I probably wouldn't think too much about it. Besides, you know people go in there, look at these cars, hit them for $5K off the top and think they got a great deal because they "saved" 5. Not realizing it was $10-$?? over what it should be. Don't forget, we have inside information in the form of this forum. A lot people see the Porsche crest and that is all they need to see. As far as Mr. Willhoit's arrogant statement of "owning more 928's than anyone in the world", my ownership of woodworking tools does not make me a carpenter. It looks like a case of money breeding ignorance to me. Of course this is all IMHO.

Bought my 93 GTS auto almost 3 years ago for $38500 with 47k miles on it. $46800 is too high even with the low milage. Make an offer around 39-40.

Don't take this wrong,
but I think what prompted his response was your assumption that A) He probably doesn't know the 928 market and B) that a low milage GTS in excellent condition is in the mid $20,000 range.

6 months ago I purchased a 94 GTS and I can tell you that I found no GTS for the mid $20,000 range. I found some in the low $30,000's but not in excellent condition. The best models were in the mid to high $30,000 with some of the 5 spds in the low $40,000. The car you were inquiring about has 48,000 miles and the asking price from Wilhout is $39,500. From my search results before I purchased my car, that price is several thousand more than the normal asking price for an Automatic model. That leaves him some negotiationg room. He is a dealer and makes his living from the cars he sells.
So I fear that Michael did take some offense at someone telling him it is worth maybe half his asking price when in fact it is worth far more than that.
Before I bought mine, I called Michael on one of his cars I was bidding on. He was pleasant in all of our conversations, but I felt his car was several thousand over the private sellers market. I kept looking and we parted friends.
I'm not excusing the tone of his response, it is certainly unprofessional. I think he just reacted inappropriately to a low ball price in your original inquiry.

Default Mr Willhoit

hello all,
I have to say, after devoting years of my life to learning about and supporting myself with computers and websites, I would take offence to a letter that is worded in such a way as yours was. I might have even responded harshely if I didn't take a few moments to think about it. It is human nature (especially us men) to not like being told we are ignorant.

and adding "no offence" to the end of an insult only adds a touch of condescention to it.

About his prices, I can't say much. I have no Idea. Maybe he should have taken a few deep breaths before he responded too, but I dont understand why buying cars, cleaning them, fixing them, and re-selling them for a profit has you all so surprised! Dont ALL car dealers buy their stock somewhere? dont they all have to make a profit?

Default clarification

to clarify:

....If someone wrote me a letter stating that I knew very little about computers and webmastering...

if that makes more sense.
