Heinrich, SMT CapeCod,
Thanks, We all love these cars and during the past 10 years I've had many sleepless nights thinking about the next project (and how I could justify it to my wife). The engine project started when I saw the stroker kits in the old Devek catalog, and when the engine (86000 miles) need a Mass Airflow Sensor replaced my justification was "while were in there lets give the engine a little more pep for the drive back and forth to work". The car seems to always be one more project from being finished, my only complaint is I'm not driving it! I'm presently lusting over some of the interior projects I see and trying figure which kidney to sell to pay for it.

welcome to Rennlist. ... your first post will become infamous.... and you probably don't deserve the rumours & innuendo that are sure to follow.... but, because v8 swaps tend to be complex in nature, the V8 chevy engines will always be the donors of choice becauase:
1. it's a damn good motor, 2. weighs on the same order of our variocam and 944 engines, and 3. can be done using many available parts from vendors and the sourcing of the remaining parts can be done without breaking the bank. 4. there are now quite a few experienced installers who can do the swaps for far-less time and aggrivation than you could ever hope to do the first time around. 5. there are lots of wonderful builds with quite successful results.
the first two threads are the primary V8 swap threads on Rennlist.

i believe the proper question might be: will a panamera or cayenne engine fit in a 928. i believe that subject has been visited several times with the answer apparently being, no on the Cayenne engine, but "maybe" on a Panamera engine..... but, for the price of a Panamera engine you can take about 7 trips around the world and still buy a well sorted 928 or 944 or 968 with a v8 already swapped in.
will either engine fit a 968 or 944 ? the Cayenne engine, no. the Panamera engine, probably no.

I have done several engine conversions. I am confident I could install the Cayenne engine into the 944. Of course not without chassis mods. I like trying to keep a stock look but depending on the height of the engine the hood may need a power blister. The LS1 is a no brainer any first year mechanic can do it with an instruction manual and parts for Renegade. Or maybe shop for a Camaro and save the wrenching time..

What about this idea?
We know the numbers of the cars keeps dwindling as time marches on. We all love these cars and many people here are truly gifted and have the smarts to make things out of better materials or better design than original parts. I saw this on some show on the BBC . The owners club for the MG (I think it was the MG) in Britain had had huge facility of new, used replacement parts for the cars. They took everything in repaired it and shipped parts all over the world for the cars. The goal was to keep the MG alive.
While I know there are clubs and developments. We should create our own roadmap for the future of the 928. Weather it's building a newer engine based on newer tech or taking the original blocks and going from there. I have seen several threads since I have joined about part x NLA what now. Invariably someone "usually Roger" pipes up with an I'm working on it or here is the solution.
An organized effort based on a solid plan.

I had something similar happen to me as well a month or two ago. A really old thread just showed up in the list of new threads so I assumed it was current. Then I commented and looked like an idiot.

i just farted....
....but anyways, this would still be an interesting project. While you're at it, replace the NLA [for some years] dash foils with a modern Cayenne dash unit & cluster... which would be a PITA, but neat.

The Panamera has a massaged Cayenne motor in it. Park your 928 next to a Panamera and look at the difference in hood height. The difference in engine bay width. A tape-measure would tell the whole truth, but a roughly-calibrated eyeball will help you see that the Pana version of the pepper motor still won't fit. Not just "it needs a power bubble" won't fit, but a major "widest/longest/tallest fugly hood and fender top extension" won't fit. More than a scoop will hide won't fit.

Ya, that's what they said When I started talking about installing a 928 engine in my 914... Won't fit, too big, Don't even think about it. Just put a chevy in there. I have actually done more than opened the hood on a car and given it the hairy eyeball.
I have a tape measure![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Cayenne/Panamera block dimension are smaller than in 928 engine. So engine will fit in between shock towers and leave more room in front of it. Problem is just height. Oilpan and possibly also intake needs to be modified beyond recognition to fit within available space.
