928 with Cayenne engine??
I've been thinking lately about what I want to do with my OB to make more power, and the question that came to mind was could my old bugger be fit with the 4.5L from the Cayenne? I know it would require a new harness and possible/probably a new powertrain, but could the engine fit. I'm curious because of the awesome out put of that 4.5.

First off I apologize for my mistake calling my car an OB. I was under the impression that it refered to all 928's before the S4.
Mainly I ask the question out of pure curiousity, because I was tinking the implication of a more modern/ current engine would allow for more sources in the peformance enhancing category. The Cayenne came to mind because, well, is got a V8. Plain and simple. It puts out 450hp stock and the turbo model is 560, I think. Just trying to think of a way to get a whole lot of into the somewhat lacking U.S. spec 83'.

I'm with you on the OB thing, I think there is some disagreement on what truly is an OB. I thought the OB referred to the pre-S4 body style too.
Don't think you're the only one.
With regards the Cayenne engine, oh well. It was an interesting idea, hell if people are putting 350 Chevy engines in these things you'd think it could be done, but I guess the setup is all wrong because the Cayenne engine wasn't designed to sit low like the 928 was.

The cost of the engine alone will be WAY more than what the car is worth, as well as the installation will cost more than what the car is worth.

other than front/rear spoiler package, what was difference in body before and after 1980 up to 86?

If you have the means, go for it. It beats using a Chevy engine!

Turbo puts out 450hp 460 ft pounds torque stock. With ECU upgrade it is bumped to 520hp and 530 ft pounds torque. This is the 4.5 liter TT.
It would not fit but would make quite a monster if it did. My CT is as fast as my GTS with the CT weighing in 2000 pounds heavier. The CT engine is much freer revving than the GTS. Imagine what a 928 would do with that motor.

WOW, I would have thought it would be much faster.

13.4 is what an SRT10 can do. I’ve ran gains two at the local drag strip and they were both pulling consistent low 13seconds. They were only a couple car lengths behind me and that’s impressive for a heavy truck. This goes for the CT too. Very impressive for a very heavy SUV.

Body changes:
battery box and tailpipe pins under body from 86-5 are twin with a modular rear muffler. Early 85 and earlier have a single pipe one-piece; later 85 and early 86 have twin pipes that run within a couple of inches of each other all the way to the rear muffler. Spoiler cars have rear quarter windows with black parts where spoiler goes. Trim there is wider too IIRC. More early cars have no sunroof. Few early cars have rub strips. Early cars have a bigger hump in the rear to hold the bigger auto trans, manual cars of same year have smaller hump. Pre-S4 cars have no clutch mount in firewall if they are auto.
