Default Antifreeze to water ratio on boosted cars?

Workshop manual reccomends 40% antifreeze, 60% water. Is it worth running higher concentrations of antifreeze on a supercharged car? Would the addition of water wetter or similar be beneficial?

Thanks

I think water wetter would be a good idea, but increasing the antifreeze concentration too far can actually make the engine run hotter.
Have you installed your kit yet? I'd like to hear if you had any difficulties with the car being RHD.

Cheers,
Ben

distilled water is best for cooling and reduction of corrosion, but thats also what antifreeze provides. waterwetter provides even better heat removing charateristics. however, the more the antifreeze, the less cooling potential. only use a lot if you need the cooling system to be "antifreeze"
water pump bearing lubrication is also part of the antifreeze job.

I've run 50/50 with water wetter in mine for the last 2 1/2 years. Temp stays between midpoint and the last white line on the gauge whether being hard or running in 95* F with the AC on. I'm sure the 60/40 mix would do well, I get into some cold temps in the winter and prefer the added antifreeze ratio in mine.

Have fun with the SC!

<MORE> on more antifreeze = less cooling, please. Me no understand.

You get less cooling because you have less water in the system when you increase the anti-freeze. Water absorbs a phenomenal amount of heat. More then just about anything I can think of.

What he said. Water works better as a coolant than antifreeze. Alcohol works better than water, but it has some other nasty traits...like burning.

IIRC (and you must ensure that you compare apples with apples - antifreeze is sold both neat and already diluted) more than about 50% antifreeze reduces the "lets call it heat carrying capacity" of the coolant. Water with say 20% antifreeze is better than 100% water because the antifreeze also raises the boiling temp of the water, enabling it to stay liquid not steam, (and steam is crap at conducting heat away from cylinders and things)

Note to self... Steam is crap... Water is good.

Got it!
