Close to the edge: Drove a New Corvette

FWIW
There are more vette' owners fixing/restoring/upgrading RIGHT NOW than all Porsche owners combined.
New vette's' ARE awesome. Relatively inexpensive. To my knowledge the cheapest, best warranted supercar on the planet.
If I had the bucks there would be a 51' in the driveway tomorrow.
However, the 928 up to and including the 86.5 is my dreamcar -warts and all-.
Has nothing to do with an exclusive marque or exclusivity. Hell, I've said it before... if Rambler/ American Motors had produced it I'd still want one. Then again, I have a thing for Pacers, ChryslerImperials/New Yorkers (392/413 CI), 1962/64, and Ford FE blocked 62-65, and a closet yearning for 61 Impala's which I think are exquisitely simple and beautiful.
I don't know what's going on with Brendan, but I think he's had at least 2-3 928s' and has been working on that stroker' for some time. I also know, that he has been hit with crap about flicks of the kids, and non-driver BS as well as claims against knowlege about the 928 ... 99% crap, of course.
Stirling had a bunch of folks jabbing him a few years ago and there was a clown or two hammering Abby with the same type of unwarrented garbage.
Straight-up... I don't think the amount of money, time, effort put into a lot of the 928 survivors is worth it. But I flat out respect the fervor and intent of those locked into the effort.
I also see folks climbing out of some of these time/money pits and thinking about moving on ...
I respect those people just as much.
There are folks who had good innovation intentions then quit. Some with good intentions who follow thru irregardless of time and cost. The s/c vs s/c vs turbo battles still rage with very vocal camp followers. Others, quietly, do complete resto's, some sink a fortune into their sHARKs
-all out-sourced- then sell them (cheap) because of a minor glitch. Some, sadly, run em' to ground.
To Brendans' credit he has stuck with it for at least 5 years on "the projeckt' if he is beginning to lose heart ...so be it. But I believe he will finish the ' total life immersion stroker' eventually and be satisfied (for a while :<) ).

A few years ago down in Marble Falls TX at the 3rd Coast gathering there was a much larger vette' gathering in town. They were just like us! I got to check out a lot of vette's - I got in late and missed the 1st run- and they were checkin' out the Weissach. Car people ....
Hmmm ...mag shocks on the 928 ...I wonder?
BTW the 08 vette is gonna cost big $$$$
Peace and grease ya'll.

don't let the door hit you in the *** on the way out, hahaha
they are pigs on some ax courses. I beat 3 versions in camarrillo last season w/my old motored gal.
I had one back in the mid 90's. seemed very big around town, lots of muscle but felt like a boat. new ones are a lot nicer for sure, but I'd rather have an M5 V10 or Brabarus Benzo or 550hp panarama when it comes out.

They recently did high speed testing at the track in Nardo, Southern Italy, and the Vettes were pretty darn fast out of the box. About 307/308 km/h (which was a bit less than promised by the factory). But during the day, in the Southern Italian heat, the gear boxes overheated. This seems to be a weak spot, since I heard this happened in Open Road Racing as well.
Maybe one of these days I'll take a walk over to the Chevy dealer that's less than a mile away and take a look - just for curiosity.

The differential is the weakest link in the C5 and C6; they explode when you feed them torque, it’s a common problem, 6 speed transmissions are the next weakest point. T56 transmissions use automatic transmission fluid for lubrication and cooling; a transmission fluid radiator with coolant pump is must at the track. The two C5s I work on are externally cooled.

I didn't feel I had enough room to spray at the gearsets, so I am just going for volume at low pressure being fed in the front and removed at the back - I rebuilt a 78 box with LSD and want to see if it will hold up (cooled) to 650.
I was planning on a simple gear pump and a 19 row cooler with maybe some fans if I can't find clear air at the back of the car.
