Hi,
I am in India and am looking for a Porsche 928. I noticed this one
but I am surprised at the price (it's about 45000 USD!!). Does anyone know why it's so much?
And do you think it would be better for me to import one from the UK?
Thanks!

You might also find that 928s are very inexpensive in Japan often very low miles/kilometers many are left hand drive however...

WOW thats pretty steep.....I would guess its hard to find a good mechanic too......
How hard is it to import a car like the 928 to India? Assuming its not too pricey other than shipping...it would be worth your while to buy on here and ship it over!

A 928 GT like the one in the Advert would be approximately 660,000 Rupees here in the UK, so very much cheaper!
Shipping to India from the UK should only be about 66,000 Rupees
Maybe you have a very high import tax on cars or maybe just on luxury cars/goods ? I think in India Whisky used to have a 100% import tax on it.

I have to say, the description and Extras are quite interesting. I guess these cars are very rare in India, and there might be few mechanics knowledgable to deal with them.
Are there any PORSCHE dealers nearby where you live? They could at least get information from Porsche Classic in case something difficult and unusual arises. But that does not mean they'd know how to do the standard stuff properly. You really need to be an informed customer in this case, or you'll be sucked dry with useless bills.
Like the PO of my car. He took it to Mercedes mechanics, who charged him loads of money. So he believed they were good... I had to undo or redo quite a few of their "Fixes" and catch-up with things they neglected. The car is neither like a 911 nor like a Mercedes. It's totally different, and requires different knowledge...
PS: There is also a "Porsche 911 Turbo 12" for sale. That rare model has 10,000 hp!!! http://www.cartradeindia.com/porsche...-12-51312.html

Before you consider importing one, find out what regulations are applied to importing vehicles to India.
Here in Australia, the government has some very strict regulations on importing cars that prevent us from taking advantage of lower prices in other countries (economic protectionism.. gotta hate it).
If the import duty and regulations aren't a barrier, then definitely look into importing one from overseas - prices as people noted above are much lower elsewhere.
You might also want to consider New Zealand as RHD 928 prices there are roughly on a par with the UK (NZ has no import regulations, so it's achieved price-parity).

I go to DELHI often and all I can tell you is that import duties on foreign good into India are huge. I would suspect that those import costs are reflected in the selling price. Just as an example an imported beer at a nice hotel in Delhi would cost you 15.00 USD, a local beer like Kingfisher would be considerably less.

A little steep, but if a true GT that's worth a bit extra. I'd have a heart attack trying to drive my 928 in India. I worry enough about dings as it is... Having spent 3 weeks in Bangalore and briefly toured Delhi, the traffic was much more chaotic than the following video shows.
Why not go for a cheaper CIS car? Less to go wrong, nice examples available between $5,000 $10,000 US. Having travelled over 1,000 miles by car in India, there were very, very few where even my 145MPH OB would have been able to really stretch its legs.

Indianporsche,
Here in Australia a 928gt with that type of miles/klms
would be a comparitive price to the one you have there.
We have allot of cheap cars here but there are also
nice examples that are at a premium and the gt's and GTS with lowish Ks
are way up there compared to th U.S or U.K markets.
Good luck with it all.
