Default Difference in S4 blocks - any advantages?

I have heard that there are some differences in S4 blocks eg. early 87 has "oil squirters" and that some blocks have thicker cylinder walls than others. Is there actually any difference between year blocks for the S4 casting and is there any advantage to these differences .
Thanks Ray Barton

Nothing major other than squirters. Drain hole at rear of the V in block was changed at some point. In GTS blocks its cast while on at least early S4 blocks its drilled.

On average cylinder wall thickness seems to get thinner newer the block is. There isn't any infication on outside which would tell how thick walls are so last S4 can have thickest block ever.

Hi Erkka, Thanks for the information, I guess choosing a block is a bit of a lottery, might be best to simply go for the latest one hoping it has less kms.

My US S3 block have no squirters.

The squirters are drilled into the casting on a ridge in the bottom of the cylinder.

Only early '87 have them. There are pics in archive which shows what block looks like when they are installed.

All oil which is elsewhere is away from crank bearings. Amzoil or not.
