Default Remote Mount Turbo Dynograph 399hp/438 ft.lbs 10.63 psi

Posted by John Thomas Denali on the Pac NW board:

Well Boys,

Here they are...........good, bad and the ugly.

I dyno'd this AM at various levels of boost.....

5-8-10 lbs....now, just some details to finish up.

...lost two pounds on the 10.6 run from 4600- 6200......and left me .7 hp short.

overall, very pleased

Our numbers are very good when compared to the SC set ups...considering what we don't have:

5 speed transmissions
intercooling
adequate crankcase venting at 10 + pounds
Things we do have: (or.... I've learned a lot, but not without a lot of help).

A Shark Tuner, 70 plus hours and outstanding technical support: Thanks John and Louie
Adam and Tom: engine builders/ advisors: Mucho Gracias
Thurston: electrical wizard
Brian @ hp connection: timing is everything, anyone who can build a 1200hp turbo car has my attention....Tx
Chuck: you got me into this mess (not really, I signed the bank papers on my own)
Paul: tranny king
Next up:

At the higher boost levels we may need to go to a little bigger injector long enough to prove our point, but will wait and install a Methanol kit, which will give us some cooling as well as additional metered fuel enhancement.......interested to see how the ST will manage that...hoping we may end up allowing us to back down the injector duty cycle to a more reasonable number.

......maybe we'll see an 11 second car this summer that corners well!

I had talked with Tom (Middleton) today about your dyno results JT, and he made a valid comment that with the turbo your car would probably pull better numbers on a brake dyno. Very solid numbers all the same. 357hp/385 ft.lbs at 5lbs boost is awesome! You should be cracking the 400hp mark in no time.

Don't see the flappy actuating, did you take it out of the picture?

400hp out of more than 10 psi!?!?!?! Something is really wrong here. With a turbo at that pressure, you/him should be closer to 500 than 400.

Are you sure everything is tuned right?

Adam,
We took the flappy out with the ST....

Still some tuning to do for sure, 500 hp at 10+ lbs is a little optimistic, lack of intercooling too, but note the leak down on the back end of the curve on the 10.6lb boost. Almost 2.5lbs, so something is leaking a bit somewhere...........optimizing crank case venting is also on the final punch list.

Great job guys! Obviously, there's more work to do.

Did you happen to log AFR? What size injectors are you guys running? I'd be interested to see if you were able to fuel properly up there.

Its interesting to note that the 8 lbs run yielded the most boost/power up to 3500 rpms. Maybe something came loose after that run?

I belive it was in the mid 11s on the dyno run. Could be a bit moire power backing that off to 13:1. The the top end power drop off must be due to some other factor than fuelling.

Injectors are 33# runing around 90% duty.

But there's no way one would want to go that lean with FI safety-wise.

I'll jump into the armchair-quarterbacking going on here with my .00002 cents:

Intercooling!!!!

10 lbs is a lot.

Edit: congrats on the smooth and high graph lines - I'll bet that translates to a big-old-grin generator going down an unpatrolled road!

What do you recommend ? I assume it depends on inlet charge temperature ?
