Drove a new GT3
On vacation in VT, the neighbor a few houses down sure enough had a cobalt blue GT3 with 1000 miles, just barely broken in. Ceramic brakes too.
I walk down to say "hi" and he was happy to let me go for a test drive with him. He lives near Lime Rock in CT and is a 928 fan. We didn't have time to go for a similar 928 spin.
The engine actually sounds very nice and has a pretty flat kind of power all the way past 8k rpms. Very light steering feel, and the clutch was pretty heavy and the shifter was very tight (not easy to row through the gears). You still seem to sit high up, not "down in" like a 928.
Anyways, a treat to drive one of the 'top dog' 911s and see what we are missing. For a road car, I don't think we (928ers) are giving up anything to be driving a sorted 928...

Lucky dog. Agreed about the road car comment-it's tough to beat a shark. I think where the GT3 will shine is in a track environment.
Interesting note about seating height. My 911 is quite, quite low, yet my 928 has more of a "recumbent" position, perhaps giving a sense of sitting lower? I think i sit more upright in the 911.

Wow, that must be a 997 GT3; I wish I could take one for a spin! To me, that is the ultimate factory Porsche.

Isn't it great? I just completed the PDI on a 997 GT3 RS - what a shame it requires a test drive
Even though I love (almost) each single thing about my 928, the GT3 feels like it was carved from the proverbial block of granite. If there's such a thing as an effortless production car for the track, this has to be it. It's psychic.

All 911's are incredibly nimble. That's their strongest point, by design. It is impossible to out-engineer that aspect as all the weight is over the rear wheels.

It only takes a moment, and once that moment is behind you, look out!

The only way to learn the limit is by exceeding it a few times in this case he did it where there was safe runoff ... besides he was trying to get around like the old very brown 1980 He is the one who after he had ridden with me and then drove his car came back the second day looked at the old very brown 1980 shook his head and said "that car just defies the laws of physics"

Make no mistake about it, you can lose it in a 928 too. Ask me how I know. At the recent San Diego Parade someone threw in a couple of kinks in the autocross course. &#*$%&#$@@!! nasty ba**tards. Almost got me once or twice. So let no one convince you the back end won't come around in a 928.

Redline is actually 8200. And yes, at that rpm, it is a sound that even sharky's can appreciate.
Still, the sound (scream) of a CGT bouncing off of redline twice down a long straight will give you goose bumps.
