Default need rear latch "tongue"

OK....My 86.5 electric hatch release goes through all the motions. The Cam tries to flick the rear hatch's latch, but can't quite reach the nylon tongue to nudge it and open the hatch. I assume that the nylon tongue has been worn to the extent that the electric hatch release can't do its job.

Does anyone know where I could buy a new nylon tongue?

Thanks;

Mike

Mike did you try the Zip ties? (or does the idea of making your Porsche work with zip ties just make you wince?)

There can be more reasons why it does not work than why it does. Alarm locks all develop a crack on the passenger side of the black post allows the post to twist and not release. If the rubber liner is missing from the receiver on the base the post is not held in the correct place. If the metal on the hatch is bent the post sticks too far to the rear(shims can help) . And sometimes the white latch part is actually worn ...sometimes

Hmmm..is there a thread on using zip ties to enable electric hatch release operation?

Thanks

First, Jim....Thanks to your staff for taking my calls on the cross country trip...

I'll inspect the components....this raises an interesting question. How can we determine our installed options (including alarm system) based on serial number?

Regards;

Mike

Putting zip ties on the flat metal blade which pivots in and out increases the throw and maybe enough to push the hatch latch plastic far enough to the rear to release. unless you find an option list under the right rear cargo compartment carpet the only way to know ALL the options is the certificate you buy from Porsche. To determine alarm or not just see if there are wires attached to the UPPER lock they run over past the wiper pivots.

Check also for slack in the linkage from the motor to the latch - the motor mount is adjustable IIRC. Disconnect the link from the motor and check that there is NO slack - I have recently seen the bush between the link and the operating arm break up and stop the release working. I have made a brass bush to fix this problem. There is another recent topic on this.

Blimey...that's exactly where I have a crack in the black plastic.

How easy is it to switch out that piece? I ordered a used rear lock assembly from 928 International and the latch was pretty worn down. When I unlock the hatch I have to pull up really hard before it opens. I still have the old lock assembly and the latch is in pretty good shape still. How hard would it be to switch them out?

Like Jim I carry all the parts to repair the upperhatch assembly - either alarm or non alarm.
Once the upper starts to crack - and most do - its a new or used assembly - Ouch!!
The lower is a lot less painful at $102.83 new.

I've installed the upper hatch latch tongue kit from Roger on two cars. Even though the tongue was not visibly worn, it fixed major problems with the hatch having to be jackled up by the bumpers to prevent it from rattling. Once the old tongue was removed I could see it had an enlarged, worn pivot hole, so it had dropped down enough to make the whole latch real loose. New tongue installed, and the bumpers can be screwed back into the hatch, hatch sits snuggly aligned with the rear quarter panels again with no rattling.

Anyway, you asked how simple this process is...Here's how I did it.

but I would recommend you go one further step and remove the upper latch completely from the car and do the job on a bench.
