Guys as you are aware LSDs are thin on t he ground and many say that
they aren't upto the job anyway. My latest idea is to have the PSD diff
modified so that it uses a mechanical actuation (ramps, preloading)
This way we could use the PSD centres which are more abundant and also
thses diffs have multi clutch packs. That is a big adavantage.
I found a company in Germany, Drexler motorsport, they make adjustable
diffs for the BMW, as per the lower link, that is right adjustable percentages and they are rebuildable too. I thought they might be a good start. Does anybody
here speak German? If so could you please call them to see if they are
interested in making some 928 diffs. Here's their website,
http://www.drexler-motorsport.com/in...en&siteid=home
Here's a link
Please read the blurb I think it sounds great, also there is another place making custom BMW diffs, maybe they can make one or two 928 diffs for us. [IMG]DiffsonlineDiffsonline
What do you guys think? The price for those BMW diffs seems reasonable. Maybe an order of 5 or 10 diffs would do it for a supplier. Or a partial mod to the PSD to make it fully mechanical, that would be great if one of our parts suppliers stepped forward and took that on.

The problem is always MOQ (minimum order quantity), then price per (pretty high). Various people have talked to Quaife and the hurdles are the same. 30 unit MOQ.

There is one project going on to install PSD into earlier car. Its part of the larger development which needs to be done before this will happen. Once PSD is in place plan is to make "brain box" which can control its behavior electronically. Control will not be as complex as factory setup. Instead it will simply lock diff based on dash **** setting or at most monitor ABS sensors and adjust diff based on acceleration numbers. Something like 80% lock up to 30 mph, 60% up to 50 mph and 40% above that whenever speed is increasing. Project is in very early stages and dependant on finishing this more complex thing which isn't really going anywhere at the moment. Just to let you know there are plans, which might not ever materialise.

Hammer, I have also spoken with Quaife, when I spoke to them about a year ago they were happy to do it for around $1750, however has your dollar gone south since then? Also I told them how they would be benefitting given they would have another diff in their catalog! Ask them are the diffs going to made in OZ? That will make a difference to me. Quaife get quite a lot of stuff made here apparently, just like Guard transmissions.
The other thing is, are you and others interested if we can mod the PSD for about a grand? The thing is you will need a PSD centre to start with. The thing I have in mind is what they do with the BMWs, adjustable lockup and rebuildable. I have been reliably told that a good LSD is superior to a Quaife on a racetrack, that being a track like Lagune seca not a drag strip. Quaife are also good for rallying but I don't plan on doing that anytime soon.
Also if you don't mind could you tell me what those balancers you got made up cost? The thing is I don't know if they will be of any benefit to my crank as the weight is different and so is the piston and rod assemblies. As such the stocker may be fine. I must admit I am not that knowledgable on this topic.
