We already have a law like this in Wisconsin. It pretty much allows anything to be street legal. In Wisconsin most people actually have plates and registration for their race cars with this type of bill.
Spread the word throughout the other forums - every state needs a law like this on the books

If you have a GTS, you'll love this.
Minnesota Statutes, section 168.10,Subd. 1c.
Collector's vehicle, collector plate.
(a) The owner of any motor vehicle, ... at least ten model years old and with a body or engine style of which not more than 500 were manufactured in or imported into the United States in any model year, ... and that is owned and operated solely as a collector's vehicle, shall list the vehicle for taxation [very low] and registration [lifetime] as provided in paragraph (b).

I think a lot of us need to research local laws. I found out last year Wisconsin has a collector special plate. It's for people with more than one collector car (anything older than 20 years). It allows me to order the same plate (with my number) for every car, even the newer ones.
The bottom of each plate says "Vehicle Collector". Yea, I'm a dork.

That is truly a great piece of ordinance

Last time I was there, there seemed to be a lot of people smoking in their cars - in fact that was the only place I ever saw people smoking.... Maybe that is also not legal?

I think my registration was $460 last year. Michigan bases the rate on the original MSRP of the vehicle if it's an '84 or newer. My '91GT was $80k new.
On cars pre '84 it's a flat $46 a year, and if your car is 26 years old or older it's something like $40 for 10 years! Only 10 more years to go!

Jesse James recently paid about 1/4 million as a fine for building and selling new motorcycles which failed to meet all the EPA clean air codes....and yes smoking is prohibited in many areas including on the BEACH in many cities...Boyd Coddington had issues with registering some of his creations as old cars (at low values) when in fact they are all new construction and very expensive. Point is who said cars are supposed to be FUN and that is the unfortunate view of most in government...cars are a neccesary evil to many....

In Maryland, any car 20 years or older can be registered as a Historic Vehicle, with reduced costs, and they're not subject to emissions or safety inspections (which means the car will not have to pass inspection to be titled in Maryland). Scary thought considering some of the old beaters I see driving around in Baltimore... but works for me and my 87... and it will next year for my 88!
