Located the source of my strange console buzz-noise
Like I described in the thread about getting my 928, I've been having a constant buzz-tone from somewhere in console area - much like the reverse gear buzz warning, only not as loud.
Suggestions from the board was to check the little temp-sensor fan, but I couldn't match the noise with it when putting my ear to the little round grille. My regular mechanic thought it sounded like a relay freaking out when he heard it, and it seems he was right.
When I ground to a halt on Monday thanks to a busted ignition relay, I noticed the buzz noise being louder and more clear, when I was trying to start the car with the fuse panel exposed.
Tried to match the sound with one of the relays today, and it turned out to be the large 'double-relay' for the rear window defogger. When I put my finger on it and slightly rocked it, the sound stopped !
Can't say if the defogger still works, but the light in the button turns on when pressing it. Can't get it to turn off again though, except for cutting the ignition - neither pressing or turning it seems to switch it off again. Not sure how it's supposed to work, as I'm still without my instruction manual, so please bear with me...
Cheers,
Erling

Yes - the **** both pushes & turns. If you turn it it should go on & off immediately - when you press it you get the 10-15mins of intensive heating (defrost). The turn switch is more of a defogger - low level warming).
See if both work ?
