Default She's back...

I finally finished a year long saga of a torque tube rebuild. Not an easy task when the car is only a foot in the air on blocks and your'e working alone.

While I was at it I replaced:

Torque convertor bearings and seal
Trans pan gasket and filter
Rear shocks
Rear wheel bearings
CV joint boots
02 sensor
Rotors and caps
Plugs and plug wires
Rad hoses
Pwr steering hose
Dash mounted temp sensor

My last task was to get the kickdown working which I accomplished this morning with the help of rennlist members.

I just want to point out that all of this work was done without a workshop manual. I know , cheap , insane , whatever...
I will get one eventually , but I want to thank all of those who helped me by answering my questions when I would come up against a roadblock. You know who you are...

It is a testament to the strength and expertise of this 928 community that all this work could be done solely with the guidance of it's members.

Hopefully this summer will be spent enjoying the car and this fall I will probably attack the infamous "timing belt" job.

Thanks again.

the workshop manual on CD super cheap form Jim M. and is an awesome investment for working on the car, it like 20 bones or something...About the same price as the membership fee to keep the board running

I am glad to hear that the shark is backup and running, remember drive it like you stole it. It will Loveyou for it.

Actually, the CD's are available from Jim Morehouse, not "Jim M." who is also a rennlist member.

Good job on the trans and TT!

Dash mounted temp sensor
THAT was the real hard one, whether 1 foot or 10 feet in the air.

And as to doing the rest of the long list w/o a WSM, how in Ferdie's name did you get all the torque values? Hope all the new parts stay where they are supposed to!

Got the important torque values from you guys on this site. I'll be ordering the CD. Story of my life...everything the hard way.

Dude,
Nothing like diving in with both feet. The TB/WP is going to be a breeze compared to doing all that on jack stands. I haven't done any of that stuff on the TT or rear yet, but I'm not looking forward to doing it on a creeper with the car 2" from my nose, that's for sure.

+1 on the CDs from Jim Morehouse, best hundred or so bucks you'll ever spend on your car (after Rennist membership). You get the WSM (which is useful, but nowhere near as much as this site) and the PET-6 parts program as well as lots of other stuff he's added in.

As Bill said, you've done some really tough jobs, now it's time to drive it and then you can do some easier ones in due time.

Congrats and good luck!

WTG Steen -- doing the TT with the car on jackstands -- even very large jackstands -- is a pain. The TB/WP will be your trial by fire -- be sure you buy/beg/borrow a proper tool to set the tension, and be very methodical and meticulous with the job. Also, don't assume that things are put together correctly in there -- a digital camera and Rennlist can answer all of your questions, but nothing beats having the manuals on hand. Good luck!
