No Engine #!!....What Next?
So apperantly my engine has NO #. Tom at 928 Intl. was kind enough to tell me the truth without destroying my dignity. I needed the number for the Specialist TB/WP kit. Is the only way to figure out the part I need by taking apart the tensioner?
In the no engine# issue. I makes me worry just a little bit. Is there anything else I should look out for? And correct me if I'm wrong it makes my car worth...zilch, right?? Well at least I won't feel bad if this engine goes.

Not the end of the world, the original engine might have been replaced under warranty and the dealership might have forgot to stamp it when they put the new one in.

Normal replacement engines seem to have ATR stamped in usual place. Besided ATR some have only engine number type while other seem to have more detailed number also.
Then there are possibly few engines which do not have anything. With these really only way to know whats in it is to check and id each part case by case.

Well thats just great news for me isn't it. I gotta tell you it has been one long and strange trip with this car. I think my car hates me just like someone recently said on this forum. Its highly possible that the engine was replaced and possibly out of warranty because the first 85,xxx miles (first owner) service records are gone. The second owner on the other hand spared no expense, wasting tons of money at local shops for minor things like bulb replacements and things of that nature.

Is it a euro car? I'm pretty sure the motor number on the engine I just put in were changed to ease federalization. What I have is clearly a euro S motor (inspection of cams, heads, intakes, and pistons all agree), but the motor number says it is a 4.5 non-S. In your case maybe they just filed it off to make it easier to get the car into the country.

I wouldn't feel bad about it, my motor doesn't have the numbers either. It's probably like Shane says, it was a warranty replacement and the dealer just didn't take the time to stamp in the numbers. Buy your self a punch set, get to work, be happy.

Number or no nuber, it will not effect the value of your car.
I beleive the actuall look of the tensioner can determine the year of the engine. Why not just ask 928 Specialist to help you identify your engine?
