Default 928 fire New City NY- Anyone Here?

Porsche ignites, fire destroys car and New City garage

By SUZAN CLARKE
THE JOURNAL NEWS

(Original publication: June 17, 2007)
NEW CITY -A gasoline-fed fire completely destroyed a Porsche and a garage in a private single family home today.

The fire, reported to authorities around 11:30 a.m., was extinguished before it could extend to the attached two-story residence at 38 Yale Drive.

According to Mike Graff, chief of the New City Volunteer Fire Department, the homeowner had parked the Porsche 928 in the garage after taking it out for a ride when it caught on fire.

At some point, the car's gas line ruptured, Graff added.

"So it became a gasoline-fed fire, which was extremely hot and difficult to put out with just water," he said.

I PRAY not, however no matter WHO it is, this is horrible. Thankfully the family apparently are safe.

They resealed both end caps (one had to be replaced because of a crack in the plastic) and cleaned the radiator for a total cost of about $350. The radiator has about 3500 miles on it without any problems and the car continues to run COOL!

Glenn Looper was a pleasure to deal with and I cannot recommend this shop more highly.

Not being an ambulance chaser - this has been covered in detail many times.
I have the hose kits ready to ship and I am sure my fellow sponsors can help out as well.

And just so everybody knows one small fire exstinguisher is not enough, at least the 2.5 pounders are not. One 5 pounder might have been able to save my shark, but the 2.5 pounder only made it half way around my engine bay before running out, and that was with a gas fire, that I eventually put out with buckets of water. I now carry a 2.5 and a 5 pounder in my sharks.

I just replaced the two bent fuel hoses in the rear. Well worth it. One was leaking and the other had several cracks. Make sure and get EFI rated fuel hoses either 5/16" or 8mm. The size on my 84 EURO. They have a heck of o bend on them. Make sure the hose you buy does not collapse. And while your at it you can replace the clamps EFI rated ones. They are less than a dollar.

That's good to know Shane, thanks for letting us know that. I know there have been many previous threads on Halons. Thought I saved a link to a supplier web site someone posted once too, but can't find it now. Anyone have a link to a supplier they recommend?

Wow! Halon certainly eclipses the cost of dry chemical. Looks like about 225.00 for a 5 pounder. Oh well, at least they come in chrome. G

My kits come with the original Porsche front fuel hose in both kits.
The 85 to 86 kit has 4' of EFI hose and 10 EFI clamps. $51.75
The 87 to 95 kit has a preformed hose for the U hose as EFI hose will not make the bend Rad. Plus 3' of EFI hose and 8 EFI clamps. $71.75.
Both plus shipping. (about $10 in the US)
