Talking It's Not Sooo Bad

Well yesterday you had to deal with me ranting and raving about how I couldn't take my shark anymore. Well now I've had a change of heart.

You see when I was pissing and moaning I thought that the oil pump was going on my car. When I started the car up sounded like a wrench was bouncing around in the engine bay. At first glance/ear shot it sounded like the top of the engine wasn't getting enough oil or like the vavles were all out of sync. My father having a clear mind=(no investment in the car) told me to fill the car with coolant since I've been having a leak. This quieted the noise enought so that the sound was isolated to the source. It was all coming from the front of the engine i.e. THE WATER PUMP. It seems the bearing is just totally gone on the original pump(I assume) and is whats causing all the noise. I was so relieved since I've been planning to replace the pump anyways. Guess I'll be spending more time with my grandfather! Thanks for the support.

Tony

Has anyone else seen a 928 block after the water pump impeller ate into it?

I'm not so sure I would run the car until replaced.

Yea, nothing but good news from me tonight.

I'm not sure these oil pumps ever fail unless something is sucked into the motor (like mine) and jams it. They might start pissing oil out the seal, that is pretty obvious when it happens.

Here is what mine looked like:

In that case I thnk the pumps ok. I replaced the OPG and motor mounts a couple months ago, and everything looked in perfect condition. I was really suprized to find no sluge build up in the pan what so ever. Not bad after 24 years!

Hey LndShark, glad to hear you feel your car might be salvageable after all.

Even though I agree with the other older guys here who recommend you concentrate on your schooling first, if it would help, and you're going to do the water pump, I have an extra timing belt here I'd be willing to donate to your project to help you save a few bucks. It's LIGHTLY used, with maybe less than 1000 miles on it, and it's in perfect condition. You're welcome to have it for the price of shipping. EDIT: Just read that you have an 83. The belt came out of an 84 US, and is a round tooth. Does that work for you?

I also have a plastic dash overlay and pod cover here in mint condition that came free with our five speed purchase. The PO bought them to install in the car and never got around to it, apparently, so he gave them to us with the car. We're not going to use them, as the wife wants to do real leather when we get around to that part of the car, so they're just taking up space in the basement. Yours also, for the price of shipping, if you want 'em to help spruce up your interior. (Warning: they are rather large, if feather-weight light, so shipping might be a tad pricey, but surely cheaper than buying the parts too.)

They are currently dark blue, and I forget if I ever saw what color your interior is, but the interior paints for plastic parts that are out there are very good for changing the color. You'd have to get that yourself out by you. Also, if your leather isn't completely shot, you should try one of the leather dyes out there, because they work pretty good. We've done it to both of our cars.

So if you are interested in any or all of the above, PM your address, and I'll find out what the shipping charges will be and let you know.

Good luck with your Shark!

Ain't that the truth!

Tony, you're very welcome. Hopefully the package I'm sending puts your car back to rights and back on the road.

Enjoy the stuff in good health. For you and your car!
