10 most sought after 928's?
just curious, what do you guys think the 10 most sought after 928's would be? based on rarity, value, history, etc? or just the 10 most sought editions? obviously extremely early cars, and late run gts's, but what else?

Fat Bully, Hammers convertable, Froggy, Tareks Superwide Widebody,A few of the foreign widebodies with the wing doors, Kuhns twin turbo, Tim Murphy's wifes car, louis Ott's car, etc.
I will have to think about this for awhile. As you can see I am a 928 purist.

Every 928 collection needs at least these.
1. Last '95 US model
2. '95 GTS 5sp
3. '78, very early VIN meaning first few 10 cars
4. '88 CS
5. '88 SE
6. '89 GT
7. '91 GT
8. '86 S3.5 US and S3 ROW, very late VIN 5sp
9. '87 S4, early VIN with squirter block & folding wing
10. '80 S, very early VIN 5sp
11. '82 50th Jubilee edition, especially in US
12. '82 Weissach, especially in ROW markets, luggage must be included
13. '81 Competition group
14. '84 ROW S, very early VIN 5sp
15. ROW '92 GTS in US, US early '93 GTS in ROW
I think above is pretty much going to be order in collector car market. All cars need to be like they originally were down to last nut and bolt including all possible documents. Either all original or restored back to original including every last sticker etc. More bizarre color and option combination the better, especially early cars where Pascha is also almost mandatory to have for best results.
Fact that for example ordinary '92-93 automatic GTS is much faster than any 4.5L models has very little to do with how much they are valued in future. This simply because collector car market is not about how fast car is. There are too many '92-93 GTS around anyway for them to be highly collectable.

Convertibles, Gemballas etc. modified cars will not make it in my opinion as they were not by the factory. If there were RUF or other modified car which has modifier company VIN instead of Porsche VIN then this would be another matter.
I think RUF Yellowbird with RUF VIN in more expensive than one which has Porsche VIN. RUF did both modify brand new chassis and used ones. Those which were new received their own VIN while those that were already registered with some normal Porsche VIN continued to use those. This is reflected in pricing even though in practise both cars are exact same totally RUF made models.
Since outside Porsche VIN 928's do not exist all modified cars will have at most pretty much same collectable value what same car would have if it were all original.

Bronto,
For me yes.
If I had my choice of various 928's, I would have some pristine factory examples, but I would also love to have some rare (for obvious reasons) custom 928's. I'd actually include various convertible examples, truck conversions (6 wheel pick up, "monster" truck) and the list goes on.
