At Frenzy 8, I hitched a ride with Capt. Earl (Home alignment fame)
in his $50 GT.
Massive wheel hop coming out of Curry's Auto when he nailed it.
Anyone know if he's got LSD?

I have LSD on my 88 and get very nice wheel hop in the wet on
255/40-17 Kumho 712's.

Ernest (NYC)
Suspension was 2 year old Bilstein/Eibach. Now 3 years old.
1st time I goosed the throttle going into a corner when wet, the tail
snapped out. Woah.
Not what I'm used to since it's my first rear wheel drive car.
Then again. The 928 has 3 times the power of a plain jane Audi 5000s.

Yes, Ernest, The $50 '91 GT has PSD. I am pretty sure that all '90 and '91 GTs came with PSD. Since you rode in the car I adjusted the KONIs to maximum and still had the same wheel hop.

I can't spin the tires on dry pavement in my 81' auto. When wet it will break loose, and it is always smooth.I just spin one with my open diff. I try not to make a habit of this as I don't like buying tires.

LOL yeah, I know... open diff is OK for an OB though, probably better on the treacherous roads around here. If I was putting down 300-400 HP I'd definitely want LSD though! In my diff, that is...

Default No Hop here!

89 S4 Auto, LSD, fresh shocks and springs (5 years old), lower ride height and 17in wheel& tire (GTS spec).

This example is from a dead stop, steering straight ahead, in first gear and no power brake.

On dry, it's a short spin (maybe a 1-1 ½ ft at best), then it hooks up and I'm gone.

On wet, I can spin 1st -3rd gears.

No hop wet or dry.

Alright I read everyone's testimate and I've done quite a few burnouts in wet and dry with my 928 and this is my conclusion to the wheel hop. It's a combo of stuff the LSD is number one, thats the link thats doing it. all of you guys with older cars no offense but you might not have the power to get the kind of powerful wheelspin were talkin about to get that wheel hoppin and skippin. All of you that have the auto this conversation is not for you, if your doing burnouts with an auto your asking for expensive trouble. The Koni's help but only so much the tire pressure helps a little to but basically keep the burnout mild and your foot off the floor or expect wheel hop. Unless you have the stock rims those things should spin like a gt mustang.

Ok, so I have a '79 with worn suspension, and an '87 with worn suspension.
The '79 I'm not sure if it has an LSD or not, haven't looked at my tread marks, the S4 does not have an LSD.
I have dish wheels on the '79 and 18" twists on the '87.

No hop in either, wet or dry, ever.

We don't know. But Barry if 5spd + LSD + big wheels + sport suspension + S4 are the ingredients, your S4 has 2 out of the 5. You have big wheels + S4

I never had it happen in my S4 automatic. It happens in both my 5-speeds on street tires, regardless of wheel size.

Brendan did a burn out in my car,got all sideways, no wheel hop. 89 S4 with LSD. I think the car had Michelin G Force tires on the rear at the time.

Tyre compound may be a big factor. SHRKBIT, don't both your cars have large wheels?
