Yesterday afternoon I picked up the wifes Chevy Blazer at Howanitz Auto and droped off the 1988 928S4 for an oil change and PA state inspection on Saturday(today).
Then went to work on the Friday graveyard shift. Driving an18 wheeler from the Poconos (where I live) to NCY & back.
Meanwhile the owner/mechanic --- after the bars closed ---- Mr Hozanitiz ---- went back to his shop with a buddy and took my car out for a joy ride.
Gets on a twisty local hgwy and crashed backwards into a tree.... how the fu*# did he do that (?) I dont know.
Troopers figure he was doing about 100 when the sh*t hit the fan.
So its 4AM & I'm on I-80 comming back from NYC & The wife calls (that is never good news at that hour).
She says pull over: then: your 928 has been stolen from the shop, and crashed into a tree.
Right now the state troopers are chasing some idiots on foot aournd in some trees on a lake shore.
I wanna puke.
My 1988 S4 was in close to perfect condition. Had great paint and showroom black leather.
Had old Ed Ruiz's GTS track wheels reconditioned, SS RMB, Devek strut brace painted G Red, and an Ott X-pipe, Jager shifter.
Only had 28,360 on the odo.
Usually placed very well in regional shows.
My wife and I looked if over @ 11 am, It must have slid on the passenger side or hit a tree in the door area too. Huge dent in the door and no mirror.
No rear glass or spoiler and a cavernous dent right over the left bumper.
The troopers were all motor heads and have mucle cars (Stangs,Nomads, etc.) and freaked out anout the condition of the car and its now wasted state.
The shop is located in a Bldg belonging to American Steel Classics with security cameras. In a dinky town called Waymart, PA.
So they waited and met with the owner when hew showed and explained they would get a search warant to review the security tapes.
And step it up to grand thef auto.
I guess around then --- they got the guy to break down and admit, he was drunk, and around 3 am crashed the car, and left the scene.
Next I have to figure out its value and what to do.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Tom B.
Sorry about the rant but Ive been up for about 30 hours now & going to take a few photos of the wreck.

Sorry to hear that,
Seems like quite a few people recently are experiencing accidents in the 928 group. Also hope that you can get things worked out for the best. Someone needs to post the value worksheet I think.

Arrgh! Total bummer man. These are the type of things that you think they must be a bad nightmare and you're praying you wake up soon.
Hopefully it will all work out and you'll be driving a sweet 928 again. Good luck. -Ed

No - he is entitled to reasonable damages only.
Replacement value.
And criminal if he chases the prosicutor.
Maybe the guy's business is worth less than his 928, however, if it has no assets.

Dude,
I am NOT, repeat NOT saying any of this was your fault, but this kind of thing is the reason I let no one at all touch my cars. I used to work at a dealership and also at a gas station that did mechanical work and I know that once you get the keys to someone's really nice car, it's like that scene from Ferris Bueller's Day off. All bets are off and (within reason) they can explain it as 'test driving' the car.
This SUCKS and I feel for you man. Good luck and lawyer up! This will be a long and arduous ride. Try not to seem too emotional about the car. Just be matter-of-fact and make sure you get a good quality replacement of equal or greater value. You're entitled to that.
