For those of you thinking this is an opportunity... look at the inatke tubes vs the radiator, and the headlight bar. The frame is pushed over several inches. To repair that, you'd have to Eiffert the front end.

My 5sp 86.5 S gives me a driving pleasure rating of "10" but the NSX comes in close with a 9!
As far as oportunity, that is why I started this thread, to get some advice on what I would like to do in this situation. I'm thinking now tho, that most might not agree!

Insurance is almost certainly going to want to total the car. New fenders are, what, $1500 each? Driving lights are $250-300. $300 - $500 for the nose. Another $300+ for a used hood. There's a bunch of other stuff too--bumper, bumper shocks, a headlight bucket. It's going to add up quickly.
Parts...labor...paint...I would wager a body shop quote will easily exceed $10k. It would around here, anyway. And any time the estimate is around 80% or higher to fix the car vs. its book value, the insurance company is going to want to punt, because the estimates rarely completely reveal all the parts that need to be replaced or straightened.
Somebody backed into me in a parking lot a couple years ago--needed the nose, a driving light, a turn signal, and a fender, and the quote was ~$7,500. Even at that point there were some initial murmurs about totalling my '88. I got used parts and got everything done for around $4k, but it was all cosmetic. The impact itself was very minor.

I would like it to total. If it were your car and you of course you wanted all the money plus some, what is the most you would try and get for it.
and how would you prove it was worth that amount?

I agree the right guy could fix that. I dont think it would be a quick fix and I don't think the ins company is going to want to pay that bill to do it right

In my case, I would have my stack of repair bills that indicate that a) the car is not the average thing you see on the street because it's been restored, and b) give an indication what it would cost to replace. I have no doubt that I would be profoundly disappointed with the result.
For an '87 in good shape, you'll probably have to argue to get $15k, and I expect it would be about impossible to get anything over $20k.
Keep in mind this is just a seat of the pants opinion...
