We have zero dyno time on these at this point. All the work thus far has been on the physical portions of the kit and making everything fit and make bolt-on installation possible for a mail order kit. It is not as easy as simply making it all fit. We have to take into account the stress every part is under and make sure everything is built to last. On this kit for example, we have ordered custom length/thread/strength ARP studs to mount the idle roller, custom made billet supercharger snout, custom pulleys, CNC 3D billet intake manifold with extensive flow bench testing, Custom throttle body housing/mount, custom EFI for the 32V 928 ONLY, custom air inlet system etc.... All of these parts have to work in harmony so that Joe Blow can install everything in his garage at home! Here are some early pics of the car we are doing in house. It shows the welded intake which is now CNC and the rough billet snout which is now fully machined and braced to the intake.

Ah, yes, the venberable "Radiator Tool and Bolt" Ledge which is shown in picture 15!
Such a great place to leave stuff when you are working in the engine bay.

Just be sure to remove EVERYTHING! Stores of Actual 10mm bolts being SUCKED into the intake and almost ripping through the filter have been heard!

What a snout! Supported at the end, maybe?

No more flappy valve; yea!

Do you realistically think you will have it out the door by summer???

George,

You can easily pump 5 lbs. of manifold pressure into a stock shark motor with 8.5:1 compression. Today, I run 8.5 psig of manifold pressure with absolutely no internal modifications whatsoever, this includes head gaskets.

My car is probably the oldest turbo or blower conversion 928 out there, as the mods were all performed way back in the winter of 1983, that makes it 20 years old.

I am in the process of modifying my wastegate circuits to shoot for 10 to 11 psig in the manifold, then I will take the car to a local Dynojet to check the output and the fuel mixture.

What you guys haven't seen in the throttle body at the back of the blower and the intake pipes. They really look nice! We have to do a clutch on this car now and even though WE HAVE NOT RUN THE CAR YET, it has a weepy head gasket on the passenger side. So we are going to replace the head gaskets on both sides BEFORE we start pumping in the boost! But the car will be done very soon at this stage in the game. It sounds like we have a Rennlister coming down soon to look at he car since he is close by.

Yes, that is quite a snout. I'll bet Derrek is planning on taking 4-6 inches off the length. At current length it would reach well beyond the alternator pulley and would require the fans to be relocated. Especially true when you consider that the TB and inlet plenum are not connected yet.

Derrek,
Now that you mention the leaky head gasket I notice what looks like the residue of Bar's Leak on the coolant reservoir. Kinda brings fears of the car having been overheated in the past. What did the compression test yield?

Derrek,

I can barely change my own oil, so I am not one to give advice, BUT - make sure you have new motor mounts on that puppy. Hood clearance, you know.

GoRideSno, you are correct. I didn't notice that 'residue' when the car came in! When we started the car to check for belt wander and such we started seeing a water leak on the passenger side of the car. It turned out it was leaking from the exhaust flange!! When I asked the owner he said: 'Oh yeh I forgot to mention that the car was running hot and loosing coolant..." ;( Then I get in to move it and the clutch sounds like there are clutch parts floating all around the bell housing! ;( So we will be fixing those first then back to the task at hand. The snout was shortened but only by a few inches to line up with the alternator pulley. We thread the belt around a tensioner roller which keeps the belt away from the fans (just barely). The pulley actually sits higher than the fenders when looked at from the side of the car, but with the slight bow in the hood it just clears. On the 'production' kits we dropped the manifold another .75" to give us more breathing room!

4MIDLIF, I will check the motor mounts again but we did that when the car came in and they were at proper hight. Thanks though.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but where do you really stand with regards to the completion of the project?

As I said we are done with the physical aspects of the kit (baring any issues that may come up during tuning). We had just started up the car tuned the idle, free reving to redline, and basic drivability, belt wander/tensioning...etc when we started having the 'issues' I mentioned above. It will be at least a week for us to do the necesary work to the car before we can start tuning again. I want to make sure everyone is aware that there is no COMPLETION DATE. Meaning we are not selling these as of such and such day. We have some significant hurdles to overcome on this project which makes it hard to nail down to a time frame. I will keep the list posted with new developments and answer any questions that come up if I can.
