Hey Randy,

What kind of dollars are we looking at for the fuel management peripherals?
Maybe a basic list with estimated costing would give us newbees a general outline as to what we are dealing with.

Thanx

Bernie,
The Motorsport injectors can be had from summitracing.com at around $225 for all of them. I know you were having yours ballanced and flowed, but you may want to consider these. My understanding is that they are an updated design and spray better than our stock ones.

Thats a very decent price.....

I think thats what it would cost to have my old ones flowed and matched. Are they really that cheap to buy new?
Do they want my old injectors?

Thanx for the info

Bernie,
I just looked at summitracing.com and 8 of the 24# or 30# injectors are $219 with no mention of a core charge. I think you will need to buy a 928 seal kit with these.
Your AFPR should cost from $160 - $200.

OK Andy,
Let me do the math on that.
Same price, basically, for new flowed/matched injectors versus rebuild of my own - hmmmmmm!!!

Thanx

You can flow your own injectors...that is all the companies do when they "balance" them. Most injectors are so close when they are clean. Don't let them fool you into thinking they do anything inside the injector, because they don't. A clean used injector will flow just as well as a new one. The mode of failure is usually a leak into the engine or around the plastic housing, where it is pressed into the steel.

The amount of flow is determined by the orifice in the injector, nothing can really be done to make them flow more or less, or to tune them in. Their matiching probably consists of flowing a bunch of them and then selecting those which are closest to each other.

Most of the places that clean them use an ultrasonic cleaning process and a special cleaning solution. Myself, I used a 2 liter bottle which I pressurized and then used 9 volts to open each injector and blew sea foam carbon cleaner through them, then gasoline to check for balanced flow.

Nonetheless, $225 for a set of injectors is really good. For my car, the selection is very limited.

Cool

I just got off the phone with Huntley Racing, and they are working on a roots blower kit which will require NO hood modifications.

They said the earliest the kit will be ready is 3 months.

An immediate benefit of a roots is that it will not impact the stock cooling fans.

944, 928 and 959 combustion chamber

This link backs up what Z says about the combustion chamber.

"(the 944 4 valve, 959, and 928S4 all have the same valves, valve guides, valve angles, and combustion chamber).

Check at cruzin I believe the cost was $180.00 including 1 new injector body, new injector sealing o-rings and shipping. The shipping was next day air. I believe the cost at Cruzin is $15.00 an injector.

Srv,
Another immediate benefit of the roots blower is low end boost. This is one of the reasons I chose this direction. I want my car to perform better at lower RPMs and speeds. It seems that I have heard many say not much happens in 1st gear with the centrifugal blowers.
Putting the roots blower on the 4 valve 928 is a frustrating project. If Huntley accomplishes this it will be worth the $6-7K he will be asking for the kit. There is no way to get it under the hood without a pretty darn fancy intake setup.

SRV,
I emailed Huntley and his response said that they will be done tuning within 2 weeks, and then done road testing after another 2 weeks, so we'll be seeing that kit pretty quick, but don't expect a cheap price tag. Hes using an Eaton M112 on a new manifold (hence the cost of $5k on up), but the power will be 40-60% more than stock. This sounds like the ideal roots setup on our cars, by way of fabbing a new intake and having the s/c sit right on top of it. The 16v 928s are going to be a while as they wont start on it until the 32vs are done. Personally, I wanna see the pictures of this beast!

There is a bit of talk on the 944 boards about Huntley supercharging. I believe they have had one out for a while for the 944. There are some pictures of the 944 setup on their web page.

To confirm the info guys, we are finishing up the 32V S4 car right now. No hood mods required. We made a custom CNC milled billet aluminum intake manifold for the blower to sit on. The blower discharged down and our to the runners. The inlet is at the back as in the stock configuration. There is a larger modified throttle body at the back of the supercharger. The blower snout is custom made to fit the 928, which just clears the oil fill to the side and extends forward to the pulleys. The H2O temp sensor is remounted to accommodate the snout. The original MAF is removed and the car is converted to MAP injection with a custom made EFI box which controls timing and fuel and is pre-programmed so the end user will simply install the kit, twist the key and go. The M112 Gen4 blower has an integral blow off valve to keep the car from boosting at idle. As soon as the throttle is cracked the car will make nearly full boost and unlike a centrifugal blower, will maintain this boost to redline. There is no boost curve as with a centrifugal or turbocharger set-up. We don't have any full power pulls yet or even the final boost level we will run determined yet though the boost will likely be 4-8 PSI or so. The 944 4-Valve head cars made 40%-70% more HP/TQ than stock with over 120% more power in the lower RPM ranges! Prices are not yet determined but the rumored 6K+ is close.

Derrek,

This is exciting stuff. I bought the 89 with the express purpose of huffing it, and (felt like I) had few options available - a FAST kit or a custom job. After reading what people are going through getting the systems tweaked, it is nice to know there is another player & another s/c platform available.

Keep us updated.
