Yes! I am so used to this feature on my other cars now...but too busy, and fearful of hosing something in my 928 trying to figure it out on my own. The value to me here would be crystal clear instructions...

So who is going to step forward and come with a complete/ready to install kit for our cars that includes diagrams, relay, diodes and instruction? I hate having to manually lock/unlock my car each time.

I am willing to pay $150 for a kit and $200 if it includes the unit itself.

If only...

The alarms and wiring were more consistent year-to-year. Then it would be worthwhile suppling a plug-in adapter harness, one with connectors installed, the isolation relay for the hatch interlock, etc. Oh, and the interface to (or a way to defeat) the factory alarm system, duplicating that function in the new unit. I'm thinking about how Stefan at SW Stereo makes those adapter harness things that allow plug-andplay install of many replacement head units; We need a similar adapter that would allow the factory alarm to unplug, and just plug the new combo module into that connector. I know I'm not in Kansas anymore. Who is that Wizard behind the curtain...

I'm on a layover at PHX, just miles from Alan. Must be the proximity.

I got one of those $40 door/hatch units that I am having trouble getting to work on MY 83. It's just supposed to be two wires. I will bring it w/me. Maybe get some help on it.

It takes more than two wires, especially if you have the factory alarm installed. If you want the hatch release to work, there's another wire or two to manage. Good luck!

I know the Commando is the prefered unit here. I really like the Audiovox APS45B Keyless Entry System. It will do anything the Commando will do, but I prefer its more standard defaults. The Commando has a 20-30 second light feature upon activation which kind of annoyed me.

I'd gladly pay anything to have one installed earlier....
I'm at the station and my keys are locked inside the car

At least you have a spare red truck to use to get home... And then have to live down the stigma that goes with keys-locked-in-car at the station. I did that once, and decided it won't happen again.

If you have to break a window, consider that the windshield is likely covered under your insurance, and you were thinking about getting a new one anyway.

The keyless entry thing is added to my to-do list. Need to look at the connector on the factory alarm module and see if they are available as a separate part anywhere. Then the hatch circuit. I think (says without looking at any diagrams...) that all but the hatch circuit end up at the factory alarm box already.

Please tell me when and where at SITM this demo may occur. I'm felling spongy!

I keep a few high quality pictures on the internet and on my hard drive so if I ever loose the 2nd key (already lost the 1st one) I can have a spare made on ebay.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd sure love to have a remote unlock for my 81. I hate turning off my alarm and still having to use the keys to open the door.
I am trying to hook up a remote on a friend's 81. I have another unit to put on my 83. Both cars are going to SITM. Neither of these cars has a cental lock button to tie into like the instructions say. I believe Dan the Pod Guy had a short tutorial on his website but I can't get this to work. When I do get it figured out I will post a 'how to'. The early cars are very simplistic w/the locking system. They don't have the controller like the later cars.

Why not get one made now so you can test it and put it somewhere safe...
