Default Coast to Coast by the Numbers

Well we finally made it home last night at 10:30 after starting in Tucson. Reviewing some notes on the journey I thought I'd share some interesting facts:

Total Miles Driven, Jacksonville to Gilroy - 2787
Total Driving Hours (including Fill Ups and Bathroom stops) - 37
Average Speed - 75.3 MPH
Top Speed - 126 MPH (75 Miles west of Kerrville, TX)
Number of Stops for Fill Ups - 11
Total Dollars Spent on Gas - $523.76
Highest Price for Gas - $4.11 - Needles, CA
Lowest Price for Gas - $0.379 - Rosinton, AL
Estimated IQ of the Gas Station Attendant in Rosinton - 80
Number of Tickets Avoided via Escort 8500 x50 - 4 (at least)
Number of Times Wife Pulled over for Obstructed FL plates - 2 (let off with a warning both times)
Number of 928's Seen - 1 ( in Mississippi on I10, OB with some quarter panel damage being pulled on a trailer behind a U-Haul.)
Favorite Stretch of Road - US95 Between Blythe and Needles
Number of Grins at WOT - ALOT. Stopped counting midway thru Day 1

Thanks again for all the advice during our scare in San Antonio, I have a whole bunch of stuff to ask you guys about.....already digging through the archives but will be back early and often as I attempt to get her sorted out.

Thumbs up

zekgb... Sounds like a GOOD trip, Kevin.

Fine thing to have a wife along to avoid those 2 ticket 'souvenirs'.
(worked for me once in central Oregon Mts.)

Maybe your decimal pt. is off, unless that's what the 'nice'
Alabama attendant charged you. Wish, wish.

PICS !!

Enjoy that 'shark'.

G'luck.

37 cents for gas?

Did you beat the guy up and then give him some money for band-aids or something?

Welcome back home. Let me know if you need any help with anything. We will be doing a ride in your area sometime this summer or fall. Gotta love 25 South out of Gilroy and offshoots thereof.

Oh, I see what you mean about the gas station attendant IQ - he was giving the gas away. We need more like him out here.

$0.379 for gas was not a typo.

I thought that there was a problem with the pump display, but just less than 15 gallons rang up for $5.37. There was a guy filling up a Corvette next to me and we agreed that we should tell the attendant. Long story short, the Vette guy goes in and then comes out a few seconds later, with the attendant following him saying (in the deepest of southern drawls) "There's no way you put 11 gallons in your car buddy, you only put $4 worth in, you really oughta learn how much gas your car takes" then turned around and went back inside.

The Vette guy just looked at me, shrugged and said "I tried to tell him..."

I'd run to my garage, quickly weld together a 1000-gallon tank out of sheet steel, and tow it behind my van to the station. Empty the station and then come home.

Bill... Rosinton is just east of Mobile.

I'll rent a tank truck... Let's go.

(probably too late... the owner no doubt booted his help off the prop'y).

G'luck all.

No kidding, it may be worth a detour on our way to SITM next week....

I spent over $65.55 filling up with 93 octane at 3.19/gallon this morning. It was kinda low, as it took 20.5 gallons, but who every thought it would cost this much to fill up a little "foreign" car?

BTW-Nice trip you took there!!

$3.71 a gallon here...but .379....maybe earl missed a decimal ($3.79).....safe to say the station owner (billy ray) is gonna be PISSED....

Is anyone close to this station.......that would be worth buying a bunch of 55 gallon drums!!

Good to see that you made it home with your new shark Kevin! I can tell already that you are hooked. Nothing like a road trip to bond you with your 928! That trip will be an experience that you & the wife will never forget I'm sure!

I spoke to Steve at Omega today & will see him tomorrow as I will be a couple doors down from him at a tint shop. I'll make sure to let him know that you made it home ok. Glad I was able to provide some assistance in your acquisition experience & look forward to seeing you here on Rennlist.

Kevin... congrats on the acquisition of AND delivery trip with your new SHARK...
And welcome aboard!

I had a 'situation' with RSKY BIZ during my 1K+ mile delivery...
My work wasn't 'pleased'. . . but RSKY BIZ and I had a BLAST making up for the delay in our trip!

Wish I kept stats like you did!

Miles of Smiles to Ya!
Kim
