Default Design 90 Wheel Confusion

I had a chance to pick up a couple of D90 wheels for a good price (curb rash) but am not sure if they're worth finding mates and fixing for fitment on either my 928 '85S or S4 (or 968). I googled the numbers and didn't come up with much. Anyone know if these wheels have an application on the 928?

928.362.154.05 7.5Jx16 et65 (w/pressure sensor holes)

964.362.112.01 6Jx16 et52.3

One thing I did find out by Googling was that the VW guys really like D90s. I do too.

Much appreciated.

Harvey

I think the D90 was the final configuration for the 90 91 928 the 5 spoke came out in 92
inside that production or a year before IIRC the club sport wheel was produced in very small amounts.

The 7.5J x 16 with ET 65 offset is the size of the front wheel on the 90 and 91GT, and 91S4 with the Design 90 option (perhaps optional on the 90 S4 as well?).

I have no idea what the 6J x 16 with ET 52.3 offset is for. I presume some variety of 944.

Psh, even 944s don't use wheels that small.

Maybe one of the assdraggers.

The 6" are cast D90's (not forged) from/for a Carrera 2 or Carerra 4 964 (911)

The 6 inch rims are just about useless especially on a 928. finding the correct 9 x16 rear wheels is not easy.

You guys got it right as I find out more. the 6" wheel did sound like a joke but was standard on the front of many 964s.

What is obvious is that many diff. kinds of wheels can fit many kinds of Porsches...but with spacers, brake clearance, and experimentation...and maybe widening a fender or two. i've not found a good list of possible applications but just that different people have made some interesting changes. While not optimal, some 944 types have used the 6" D90...maybe for show?

Also, that VW owners like the D90s and the 964/911 guys generally do not like them.

It appears that 7.5Jx16 et65 may work as a front wheel on my '88 S4 and the 6" wheel may become a track wheel for a VW or something.

Thanks for answering.

It was small by late eighties standards already but Porsche could not do too much about 911 body until 996 arrived. 964 and 993 were still deep down early sixties products as platform were inherited from original 911.

Default RSKY BIZ'S D-90's...

After the original manhole covers got ruined by some tire spray, RSKY was fortunate to acquire these wheels:

Default NOT SO FAST!

Cyinisis,

I truly love the traditional look of the manhole covers. . . AND I plan on having them restored to original condition for use once again...

It wasn't for lack of trying or elbow grease that they did not come out shiny clean. The wheels were 'etched' with drip stains from a wheel spray used at the dealer in MS...

However, up close, they were 'trashed'.. to be polite:

Not to worry -- she'll wear 'em once again!

Thanks, Tails, for the info. Now...just to get 3 more D-90s to restore!

Risky Biz...many detailers use acid to clean wheels as well as windshields!! It will etch both if left on too long. A lot of not-so-good detailers do this. It's enough to PO one.

a Data point and a bit of a flash back.

i recently bought a 87 944 turbo and it has these wheels. As i research i am finding that the 9 inch are very hard to find and i will be keeping them.

Im looking at refinishing these. They are in chrome and the rears have minor pitting.

Im going to have them either re chromed or stripped and powder coated a very light gold/bronze color. (this is for my 944T shown..IMO they really suit it)

did these come chromed or do you think his was done after the fact??
