Default Rhodamine Red GTS up for sale again

was the Rhodamine Red GTS with 129k just up for sale a month or two ago? anyone know the story?

there's a comment in the ebay ad about these being very expensive cars to own. guess the new owner found out the hard way. I know I sure did. put in 6k in an 11k car in sixty days, and the wife won't touch it (I had bought it supposedly primarily for her, and secondarly for the kids, kids love it, wife hates it), mine will be joining this one on ebay as soon as I finishing fixing a couple little things.

Very expensive compared to what? The 355 Ferrari my father is looking at requires the engine be removed every 3 years for a $8,000+ routine service job.

If you are trying to own a Porsche that will be the same cost to own as a Corolla, then yes, you purchased the wrong car.

I agree with Hacker, very expensive relative to what?? Your $11k S4 that you just put $6k into in the last 60 days had an original window sticker 20 years ago that was almost 6 times what you paid for it earlier this year. So you have $17k in a very nice example true grand touring super car that cost $60k when it was new. And after buying it and spending all that money you are now gonna sell it so someone else can enjoy both your maintenance money & time spent looking to find it? I say keep that shark for a while to enjoy your investment. You just may find that you will be glad that you did. What else are you gonna buy for $17k that provides the driving experience that a 928 does?? Who knows, maybe after your wife sees over time just how much you are enjoying the car instead of the bummer attitude I'm sure spending an unforecasted $6k has probably produced in you, she might just start to like it too.

I asked the guy some Q about thing that need repair and this is what he said.....Hi, thanks for your interest in the car. I talked with the mechanic who last worked on it. He seemed very familiar with 928s and gave me this list of mechanical things that need attention:

- Leak at oil cooler seal
- Leak in power steering
- Central locking inoperative
- Front brakes worn
- Coolant level sensor
- Radio inoperative

In addition, he said he would recommend doing the timing belt and water pump since the last service date on these is unknown. From following Rennlist posts and reading what sorts of issues people write in about, all of these sound pretty common for 928s. I've had to replace power steering hoses and various seals and gaskets on my other Porsche over the years, so I think these are pretty routine maintenance items.

I have had the car safety inspected and emissions-tested here in Texas, and it passed easily. The tires have plenty of tread and are evenly-worn, the car drives and shifts well, and the torque tube is quiet.
Seems like someone didnt maintain her and with that many miles on her you will not get your money out of her , no resale value but if you plain on keeping her for yourself and can get it cheap it may be a nice car.BY THE WAY u may want to add motor mounts to the list also.

well, I do have a ferrari, a 308 GT4, which is much, much cheaper to own than the porsche. It's also a much simplier car and the two are related.
one difference between the two is that I or a good local mechanic can do most things on the ferrari, but on the porsche, it's a local guy or an expensive speciality shop, which is where most of the 6k went.

the belt change of the ferrari is more, but the increased complexity of the porsche seems to be the big difference.

also have a mid year vette; no comparison there in terms of complexity or cost. I guess I'm more into cars that I have chance of working on or having worked on reasonably, which I haven't found to be the case with the porsche.

the wife's made her decision, she finds the 928 too heavy, she says she can't go 20 miles an hour in it. and no airbag, so she won't let the kids use it much either. so she told me to get rid of it to use as a down payment on what she wants which is a camry hybrid. So I"ll put it on ebay and try to get most of my money out of it. If I can't, well then I guess I'll just have to keep driving it every day, and suffer. (sympathy cards welcome).

Ok, this must be a joke unless you never drive the Ferrari.

It sounds like the wife does not like the car (which is her right, not everybody does) and you are digging for reasons to justify it in yourmind why it's a POS to make yourself feel better. I've seen this 1,000 timese before with every make / model sports car.

Don't feel bad, just sell the car. But trying to convince anyone a 308 Ferrari when driven the exact same way and over the exact same miles will be cheaper to own than a 928 is downright silly.

Good friend of mine has a few Ferrari's (just sold a perfect 308) - he's going to get a kick out of this.

I dont get the comments of the 928's complexity. Really I dont. There is no job on this car I would be uncomfortable doing in all honesty. I have owned my car for a year now and I have tackled a bunch of things. Without this list though I could see it being a pain but whats so complex about these cars, really?

I aso agree with hacker and laugh at the thought of the 308 being cheaper to maintain then the porsche.

All relative. There isn't a Ferrari in existence that is cheap to own. A well maintained by PO 928 will be relatively cheap to own. A car poorly maintained will need attention. This goes for any car.

The 308 is cheaper to maintain, but all the time. The 928 is not cheap to maintain, but the maintenance is much less frequent. Compare first-year costs and then first-five-years cost and there's no comparison-- the 928 is less.

That 308GT4 is an orphan too, and last time I looked there were no 308GT4international.com parts dealers. I've serviced both, and the 928 is bulletproof in comparison.

I reviewed the previous thread. Tom in Austin must have backed out of the sale. Shane was #2 and apparently didn't like it either. What's up guys? Enquiring minds want to know.

Okay, super thread drift. I have both a 928 and a Ferrari Mondial. both are maint hogs. I would say that if you're going to do most/all of your own wrenching, the cost is comparative. Getting any chassis part for the 308/Mondial is a truely grusome experience. Getting belts, hoses, brake pads, etc for the car isn't a problem. I use VW axle boots on my Ferrari. I use Fram filters, I use Gates belts and hoses, cheap and reliable. Same on the 928.

But, try to find the rear valance for a 308 and you are screwed($$$$$). No problem on the 928. The work on each car is about the same, and the electrics on each car are crap. If an owner can avoid buying chassis parts for a Ferrari, it's all good. If not, bend over.

The current ebay sale is by "tomandreina" and the car is in Austin. I'll guess Tom in Austin did buy it.
