Your cost estimate is in the ball park but 5-7 years is the commonly accepted range for belt replacement on a 355. Valve guides were an issue up through mid-1998 model year production and require a top end rebuild. Do these two things at once and your retail price from a dealer will be about $12K.

Also note that factory headers are almost guaranteed to need replacement due to cracking and interior parts turn sticky in nearly every case.

Other than that, its a dream to own.
