Default What to Do With Bad Gas?

Usually Beano takes care of it. But in this case, it's eight gallons left over after draining the tank. I thought I'd be smart and run it through my lawnmower.

Yeah, so that turned out to be a bad idea; it killed a a two-year-old Honda in two gallons. So, now I have eight gallons of awful, stinky gas. It's $15 to take it to the waste dump and they keep the containers.

How do others get rid of bad petrol?

Got a grill?

Sounds like lighter fluid.

I have the same problem. About 8 gal of 5yo stale gas from my '78. It was suggested that it would evaporate from an open container over time but this sounds a little dangerous and not very friendly to the enviro/atmos.

I vote for the BBQ ignition method of disposal.

That would be an enormous number of barbecues, and probably the least environmentally friendly way to dispose of it. I'm looking for a safe, clean way to get rid of it. Like businesses that take old gas, or ways to recycle it, etc.

8 gallons of gas is too much to burn, IMO. I used to start fires with gas, oil and things like that, but you really only need 1 gallon or less, even for the really big brush fires...

You're just going to have to call around to all the gas stations or recycle places and find one that will let you empty your gas into one of their containers. Keep calling until you find one that won't charge you.

If you can burn garbage then throw the gas on it before lighting otherwise perhaps a local farmer would burn it in his tractor.

We can add 10% bad gas to our waste oil for recycle.

All Advance Auto stores take waste oil for free.

I do the same as Mark. Any bad gas I have is stored in a metal can and used for solvent in part washing/soaking. Then I mix it it with old oil for curbside pickup every 2 weeks. Eventually it's gone but it is slow. You would be surprised how soon it looses it's volatility if left out in an open wash tub in dry weather.

This may work. I recycle my oil at the AutoZone. In CO, places that sell oil have to make accommodations for taking old oil. And the nitwits who work there are usually too busy to monitor people dumping in their recycle bin. So, if I mix it about 50/50 I can get rid of it in less than a year. My 50/50 mixed into their huge vat would still leave them way below 10%.

I wish my VW Passat was still under warranty. I'd run it through there because I don't care much what happens to that piece of junk.

Thanks, Mark.

+1000

Or go find a big empty parking lot (night time maybe), write a message in gasoline and ignite it.
