No, we don't do "circle jerking". You will have to go to the 966 board to see that activity....

This would be mine, were it in New England. My dad was looking into one before he heard horror stories about the 2-6 bearings needing to be changed frequently.

What would be the worst scenario in a snapped timing belt in this 85' ? I know some of the valves would be bent, but what else would entail in the top end rebuild ? Any piston or rod damage ?

I could use the cosmetics for my 82' 5spd, but would never part out a possible living 928.

I'm only 60 miles away from this car and would give it a good home if it didn't take a total rebuild.

Anybody have the experience ?

Alken: If you want, I can drive over to the garage tomorrow and take some pictures for you. It's only about 25 miles from me. That way I can see first hand what the car really looks like.

"Happy Birthday Ann! I bought you a broken 928, now put your Honda out on the driveway."......No, probably wouldn't go over too well.

If anyone local gets it, let me know. I can lend a hand. If anyone plans to part it out, dibs on the cams.

I'm not sure where the 1000 dollar amount came from, from I spoke to the owner just now, and of course there is some somewhat conflicting info.

3000 dollars is the amount that the owner of the vehicle is asking. I'm going to be driving from Chicago to San Diego with a tow vehicle in 2.5 weeks, but I can easily stay on 80 and get out to Sacto easily. But not for a sight unseen belt break 85 for 3k. 1k sounded alot better.

I can only assume that the owner recieved a few phone calls and is smart enough to try a higher price.

Nice friend, changes the price and affects your credibility. I hope someone gets this car and does it right.

You have to figure the owner was really upset when he scrambled the valves then the shop told him they had to pull the engine to get the heads off and then fix the damage he easily could have been given a $5,000 "estimate" and in the heat of the moment said "$1,000 and it is gone" now with a bit of cooling off and several calls from "buyers" he is trying to limit his loss.

True Jim, but the price should have been confirmed before spreading the good news. It sounds like the price is being jacked because of all the sudden interest though. I'd be pissed if a friend did that to me after trying to help him out.

Would you have your friend take a huge loss instead? You can look at the $1000 as the asking price and if others are willing to pay more, then so be it.

$3000 today might be a bit optimistic to me. I bought my '85 with a broken t-belt back in early 2000 for $3200.

I talked to the guy, Robert this morning. Great guy, really loves the car, he's owned it since '95. Has all the records, the water pump seized, which led to the failure.

Exactly. And there's nothing wrong with that, so I don't understand the bitching about it. He has every right to get the best deal that he can for the car.
