$3000 today might be a bit optimistic to me. I bought my '85 with a broken t-belt back in early 2000 for $3200.
I am referring to the mechanic telling Jones the 1000 $ price and then having it change after the fact. The mechanic should have confirmed the price with the owner BEFORE passing along the info to others. Nothing wrong with trying to get a fair deal, but changing the price after the fact is wrong if that is what happened. No big deal, doesn't concern me because I am not interested. Was just an opinion.

I called the mechanic at 9:45 am and he said several other people had called, and he was passing out numbers along. I don't think it was 10 minutes before the owner called me. He did say I was the first one he had talked to. We never talked price, and I didn't talk to him again. It is a manual, sounds like cork with dark brown carpets. It's Weinrot metallic, and is was repainted about 2 years ago.

More incongruities.

I'm truly sorry guys. I am really pissed over this and have called the shop and informed them that I had tried to do the Rennlist folks a favor by duking them into a potentially good deal. It would appear that the car's owner suddenly saw that folks were interested in the car and jacked the price. This is unconscionable to me because I specifically called and confirmed the price before I posted it to the board....I asked at least three times....ARE YOU SURE it's $1,000? The answer was.... Yes...that's what he wants.

As far as I'm concerned I woudn't mind a bit if the car didn't sell....on the one hand you can say that the owner has the right to try to get as much as possible...but when he says one thing then jacks the price based on the sudden interest in the vehicle...that's quite another. My apologies guys.

Chuck Jones... hey, don't beat yourself up.

The owner is the villian here. Let'em live with his own skin.

We 'sharksters' appreciate the heads up and a chance
to resurrect one of 'ours' or at least take organs from it.

G'luck.

Chuck,

It reminds of when houses sell for more than the asking price, which blows me away. If you say give me $300,000 for this house, and I come along and say, ok, here you go, it should be a done deal.

On the other hand, this guy really loves the car, and has at least 12 years of records for it. His daughter is begging him not to sell it, and he seems torn. If the mechanic had given him $1,000 when he said he'd sell it, he probably would have taken it, and the mechanic could have flipped it out for a quick $500-600 profit. Given some time to think about it, he's making the sale a little harder to complete.

We don't kill the messenger here. If anyone was put on the spot, it was you. No matter. Enjoy your own car in good health. Many of us have more then one 928, so one slipping by is no issue.

I am sure it will still sell for $1,000 in the present condition, 5-8 years from now.

Sounds like the owner really loves (or love-hate) the car.......I wonder how old the WP was when it failed? Either way the owner clearly does not want to sell it (hence changing the price).....hopefully he will decide to spend the $$$ to fix it & just keep it.....

Its only 30 miles north of me.....I can go check it out and take pictures if anyone is interested

Ice: The car is in Roseville....which will make it 60 miles from you. I also offered to go take pictures, and I'm only 26 miles away. But if you decide to come up...PM me and we'll go have a cup of coffee or whatever. I'm only about 2 miles off of Hwy 99 or I-5...

Chuck, I just looked at your sig....I think I've seen you around in your slantnose 930. I live in Elk Grove as well, your pic looks like the lakes on the Laguna side. I live over by Laguna Creek High School.

Well Tuesday you could have seen it on the back of an AAA truck headed for Frank's Automotive...throttle linkeage broke in an intersection. Yes...I live just off Laguna Blve near Franklin. I don't recall seeing your 928. We should get together...are there any other Rennlisters in Elk Grove?

Loren from RennTech moved to Roseville recently, and we were talking about trying to get a DIY day going with some of the P-car crowd. Loren's experience and knowldege are fantastic. He just helped me replace the fuel door actuator in the 996...and he has the computer program to download all the error codes as well as reset the CEL's. I was amazed at how much he could tell about my 996 from reading the codes.

Quick Reply: 1985 928...take it for $1,000
