I have to add some comments about Corvettes. Ever since the Boise Parade in 2002, I have had respect for Vettes. The local Corvette club helped out the Porsche Club during that parade, and there is something else I've noticed about vettes: they are the one car that doesn't have some bad attitude on the street. Everyone else and their brother wants a run with a 928; everyone that is except a vette. They leave me alone. I leave them alone. I have great respect for them and regard them as friends. I would stop to help a vette driver in distress, and no doubt they would probably stop for me.
No, I don't want a corvette. I want my 928. But I respect their preference for vettes too. Peaceful coexistence. Far out !!

When I steal ... ahem... borrow... CarChick's Z06 I get (and give) a friendly wave from every Corvette I happen to see. It never fails. Not once has a 'vette driver passed by the Big Yellow Plastic and not waved. It doesn't matter what model year 'vette or the sex of the driver either.

As many have read on this forum, my best friend owns a sweet 2000 white Coupe C5 with a 383 stoker under the hood and a 6 speed manual. Mucho faster than my car. He was extremely disappointed when I drove another 928 home a year ago after selling my first one in 2002. He knew my budget and was printing out adds from all over the place and leaving them under the wiper of my truck. The problem was, my price range relegated me to Pre 1997 models, which in my honest opinion, just don't look half as good as my 928. And I've ridden in plenty of C-4 vettes, and the performance is close enough that it was a no brainer for me to get another 928.
I second Ron's comments. I routinely hang out with the "vette" crowd and they are all great guys. They let me show my "foreign" car with them at car shows, hang outs, and get togethers. He and I work on each other's cars regularly. I have never had any vette jack with me on the road. I passed a C-6 last night on I-35 (briskly- about 10 mph faster), and didn't get so much as a twitch from him. I've noticed that nearly all of the Corvette club members chill out on the street, and thrash their cars at the track.

While driving around earlier I purposely blasted by a stopped Z06 at a light, I was about 400 feet behind him doing probably 50 while he was just starting to roll at the green light; I wanted to play even if I'd get killed. I don't think he even noticed me.

Yesterday, while out exercising the 'stable', I was southbound
on (our) I-405 thru Bellevue. I was in the 'thru' lane, flowing
with traffic and I eased up on a good looking '63 'vette to my left.
I pulled alongside and gave him a 'thumbs up' for his fine auto.
We both had cars ahead of us but he dropped down a gear, left
it in neutral and gave me two 'blips' then popped the clutch and
swooped into the HOV lane, around traffic, and was gone.
We were under the overpass for the blips and it was stupendous.
Those 327 cubes do play pretty music ('tho it sounded beefier).
It's ok for the 'vettes, 'merican and German to play together.
G'luck all.

Mark, you don't know your 'vettes. That's not a C6 in your picture.
And by "highly modified" you mean it has the factory's T1 kit on it?

Looks like a C5 to me and that pic just tells me you could have easily been passed on the outside by the Vette and the Mazda is about to show you what the back of his car looks like!

Thanks for all the interesting replies folks, unfortunately I don't have time to reply to them individually as I'm going across the big pond first thing in the morning for a few weeks of work, have to pay the bills.
About the jokerC6 sig, my first name is Joseph, and my last name begins with the letters Ker, and I drive a C6. No real mystery there, I just don't like using my real name on internet lists.
Be well.

I know my vets, but im not too good at typing. sorry , yes, C5.
the T1 mods are basically suspension. However the engines can be tuned to make near 355rwhp!!! (ive heard even more as well, from guys like Scotty B. White , who now runs the T1 vipers and even World challenge as of late)
this one has the cams, special intake and the headers as well as many of the old speed GT chassis and aero mods. see that wing???

Let me first say that that Mazda would beat most any 928 at sears. A 1:50.xx (what he ran in one of the sessions) is a full 1.5 seconds faster than Anderson ran his first time out at Sears point in 2000. (on DOTs and with some balast weight as well as his older 6.5 motor with only 420rwhp) many other pros at this event with vipers and vets with huge HP ran this same time. (near 1:51.xx)
Now, with a pumped up engine, this little mazda, driven by one of the top small car racers, is pretty darn fast. he was easier to get around than the Vet, but i was able to get around both of them after a few laps, and i was near 2 seconds faster a lap, after i was able to get around them.
Now, if you need to see the video of this, its posted on youtube!
the point is. a 20 year old stock 928 able to hang with modern technology with a heck of lot less mods! C5 vs 928. the C6 z06, is kind of unfair to compare. now we are talking about a viper for all practical comparisons. (ie 500+ hp vs the 405hp of the stock Zo6 C5)
