"The 911 is easy to get in and out of compared to the 928 whether the top is up or down. Me thinks you drank too many of the attached. "

As noted above, the theory isn't valid as the 911 has survived over 40 years, and it's no picnic for me to get in and out either. In fact, there's a buyer's guide that references one of the things to look for is a loose steering column from people putting their weight on to get in and out...

Epiphany... Didn't she sing "I Think We're Alone Now"?

I mean that's a crap song for sure, but I can't see how it led to the demise of the 928.

To exit a LH drive car -

1) Open door;
2) Throw left leg out, place left foot on ground;
3) While rotating hips, catch dlosing door with right foot on door's carpet patch;
4) Complete hip rotation and place right foot on ground;
5) Catch closing door with right forearm, hold it open with right knee;
6) Grasp A pillar with right hand and B pillar with left hand;
7) Lever body part B closer to the outside of the car;
8) Place arms akimbo and forward of the centerline of the body, with right elbow on the A pillar and left elbow on the B pillar;
9) Draw elbows behind the body's centerline, using this motion to lever the torso and legs into an upright position on the exterior of the vehicle.

What's hard about that? Besides, if you're lucky you only need to do it when you have to buy gas. ;-)

I actually own a 944, I WISH I bought that 928, but alas, not enough $.

Isn't the 928 a battleship compared to my tugboat '44?

You guys make it sound smaller.

Maybe everything's just bigger in a 944

Good stuff. But your forgot:
10) look back in car for change and/or wallet that has fallen out of your pockets while you did all this maneuvering.
11) smooth your clothes, stand up straight and try to look like you are completely comfortable with this exercise.

Default INGRESS . . . EGRESS. . . SITM . .

Hmmm, do I sense the need for a little SITM 'Demonstration' -- or better yet -- a friendly 'Competition Session' regarding Shark Ingress and Egress @ SITM???

BTW, it would be 'BYOS' -- Bring Your Own Shark!*

there were a lot of reasons the 928 didn't/will never replace a 911, from being too expensive to being too fat to out handle a 911 on a typical track... that motor near the rear gives an incredible traction advantage if you know how to use it, and the 911 can easily be 1000lbs less w/a minor effort. can't deny the 911 is the winningest sports car ever built, and it's for a reason.

I also think most folks either wanted a ***** to the wall sports car or an SUV/practical car. doesn't leave much middle ground for expensive GT cars that are bad at both. ie the bmw 633csi disappeared around the same time, presumably for the same reasons. it's reemergence as the 650 series may be as short lived, probably because the dynamics haven't changed a lot.

although it's close to a GT car, the vette survives only cause it's "american" and cheaper to own/operate more than cause it's stellar on a track or looks great compared to it's foreign competition, imho. it's also the only american iron that doesn't look like it was designed starting w/a box (compared to most detroit iron, hahaha)

heck, for $30k you can get a nice 993 supercar that shreds like no other, has 1000 qualified mechanics and tons of cool parts available. if ya want to be different, you pay the price by having a bugger to get stuff for or that takes forever to get fixed cause there are so few folks that can fix it properly, (or fix it yourself)

but the 928 does look & sound cool.

Hey, I could be into this- my interior is so trashed that I don't have to worry about screwing anything up jumping in and out (other than insurance bills). Bring it on! I'm sure we can agree on a prize for the winner...

I have to sit on the seat of my SAAB and draw my right leg in and then the left. If I forget, and try to put my right leg in first, I jamb up in there under the wheel, esp if my wife has been driving. I think 928s are easy, but then I have a Fiat Abarth rep. with Recaro buckets from the seventies. If you can get your butt out of one of those, everything else in life looks easy.

BTW, the 928 had a very long production life. It made it a long time, and cost as much as a house. It sold well compared to it's competition, but by the time a replacement should have been developed, Porsche was moving in other directions. It was widely recognized as a supercar in its day, was car of the year at its introduction, and has made it on numerous top ten sportscar lists. In fact, if you look at the 996, 997 models, They have really taken on a lot of the 928 design parameters as a sports GT. You could say that they are the spiritual successors to the 928, and in fact a new 928 is on the boards right now.

That's making it to me.
