Default Who can identify mystery part?

On RHS of digi clock in my S4 is a hole, and at bottom of hole I can see a metal disc/button (same dimensions as say a mercury button cell) which has clearly fallen out of the hole.

Today I had console out so took a closer look. I'm no wiser!

Could be something to do with alarm system (on other side of clock is red LED to show alarm status, but I don't think you get this on original alarms), but I'm pretty sure it's not an ultrasonic transducer. there are two of these anyway at corners where headlining meets windshield.

It has two wires going to it which disappear under the dash heading towards glovebox where the alarm switch is, which again points to some connection with the alarm.

So what is it? The flash in the photo makes it look more scratched up than it really is - it's actually shiny metal apart from the felt. It's like a mercury button battery less than 1cm diameter, with a sort of black felt covering on one face.

How do the wires go into it - can you show that side?

Mine has a **** in that location. It says "Azimuth Fine Tuning". I have no idea what that means.

Edit* I just checked Wikipedia and this is what they say: Azimuth is the horizontal component of a direction (compass direction), measured around the horizon, from the north toward the east (i.e., clockwise) in astronomy and geodesy and from the south toward the west (i.e., clockwise) in surveying. It is usually expressed in degrees.

Hi Malcolm,

Things are back together now so may be tricky to pop it out again. The carpet side covers aren't on yet so I'll see how easy it is to remove and note numbers. It certainly wasn't a Porsche part no. on there because I did look at the number when it was in the open.

That's a good idea. You mean like a mercury switch for movement of the vehicle? The other US sensors would seem to be monitoring movement of anything in the cabin.

rom memory Alan I think it had tin black and white wires going into a sort of potting substance at the rear.

Obviously a couple of Flux Capacitors. Keep tinfoil on your head at all times.
