Post Anyone ever removed the rear AC in a 91' $4?

I'm restoring my tired interior and am going to do a rear seat delete and am wondering why I should keep the rear AC that I haven't used in 8 years. What problems should I anticipate? (I've had this fine auto long enough to know that there will be problems). BTW this is my first post on this forum although I've read it over the years. Thanks!

Drive it over to me...I'd do the take out for the parts as I want to install rear air in my '79 as I'm doing a interior redo soon.If thats not an option how much would you want for all of the inside parts and lines that go up into the engine compartment??

Rear air can be removed, but you need to discharge the system first and suck it all out. The main two AC lines have a branch that is jointed right underneath the fuse/relay panel underneath the car. These need to be capped off right there, otherwise the oil will pool there. Louie did this I think while the lines while they were on the car.

There will be a 3 inch hole in your passenger rear footwell when you are done.

Oh, snap! I think I remember hearing this, long ago, about not disconnecting at the fitting under the passenger seat. My rear air was removed at some point, and capped under the seat. I wonder if my (original) compressor has any oil in it?

I have most of the parts to restore the rear air, but I would like to find someone who has an R12 evacuator, so I can save my old 'chill'.

I bet you already know this, but with the A/C season just around the corner there will be lots of questions by the newbys who have taken ownership in the last hear. So for clarification, I've never heard the term "evacuator"; methinks that would describe a vacuum pump, which does not save "chill". A vacuum pump is jut that, it will pull a vacuum and dump whatever is in the lines into the great open air. To save refrigerant and dry it for future use would require a recycling station.

Right on, I'll be subscribing to this post. I'm that dang newbie who'll be asking all kinds of rear A/C funny questions such as: why didn't they just run some skinny vents to the rear via a 3" raised center console? No, really. Can anyone point me to a good write-up of someone who's refurb'd their rear A/C?

If you lived in California you'd keep the rear ac.
