...and the seller has not been identified by name.

The buyer has a problem with a transaction; a transaction with a Rennlister. What better forum than to post the grievances, than Rennlist.

IMHO, the caps should have been part of the sale, unless otherwise stated.

I can understand the lug nuts not being included. If you watch the "For Sale" threads, most rims for sale are pictured w/o the caps.

soccergk,
Welcome to Rennlist: In my experience, bare wheels are precisely that - caps are not included. It is nice that sometimes they are included, but the seller is not required to do so. I have typically paid extra for caps, or negotiated them into the sale.

Four center caps are not worth worrying about IMHO.
If the seller said he had wheels for sale and that what you got, I see no problem there.
If the seller had said whells and center caps for sale and you only got wheels, that would be different.

The buyer is a girl? That means she's a female. I can chime in on this subject because I'm married to one of 'em and have expert knowledge of their behaviour. Guys, they are nuts! Absolutly freakin bananas! This doesn't have anything to do with the wheels, if the seller would just ask her how she FEELS about not getting any center caps everyone could be happy.

Seriously, I recently bought wheels from 2 different sellers and can understand both sides. Only one seller included caps with my wheels, I didn't expect them but can see how someone might, it's a valid question and the only real solution is for it to be discussed up front just in case.

I think I have a extra set of center caps around somewhere. P.M. me if you want them and, If I can find them, they are yours for the shipping cost.

It depends. Porsche OEM wheels are often sold with or without centercaps, some other wheels are always sold with centercaps. A buyer might assume, a seller might assume. The seller should say what is or is not included in the sale (within reason) and centercaps are something many buyers (I feel) would be expecting. Decent centercaps might go for $15 apiece, crappy ones should be pretty much free or the cost of shipping.

So I would not be surprised if a buyer expected the centercaps to be included and I think it would be fair for the seller to assume some responsibility for the misunderstanding and try to resolve it. I would further expect the buyer to at least pay for shipping if not a few bucks and to also be understanding. I do not think it'd be fair for either party to be a jerk about it.

FWIW in the last few years I have bought 7 or 8 sets of wheels for Porsche, Audi, BMW, and VW and I think I got centercaps with all of them, in some cases the seller said they were included. I guess I tend to assume they are included unless not pictured or stated that they are not included. That does not make it correct, just one man's opinion (although one man who seems to buy a lot of wheels.)

thanks for somewhat understanding...i just think the fact that he said "i assumed that you did not need them as they were going on a VW" so if they were going on a porsche then he would of included them ???? just seems wrong to me. thanks for your responses. ill PM the people who said they had some caps for sale... and if the wheels are worth 100 or 1000 its the principle not the price

As most of you porsche guys know there are various centercaps that you can purchase. Some are plastic inset and some are metal. It's a pain to find centercaps for wheels, let alone the $100 it costs for the centercaps.

Like Heather said, its the principle, not the cost. I have heard my wheels called hispanic looking, no i dont understand. Opinions on the cost of the wheel is kind of unrelated.

He didn't include them, but felt it was okay to post them on ebay. I'm really finding that one hard to grasp.

Since we are responsible adults and we have a case of miscommunication, split the difference. No winners, no losers.

Heather;

Why don't you tell the whole story...

You got the wheels with tires for a stupidly low price. What I sold them for was just to cover my time in removing them/boxing them/scheduling the pick up. It's not a principle issue, it's a greed issue.

THEN, I was more than generous enough to pay for half of the shipping, or ~$60 worth, because you didn't want the tires that were already on the rims, and you were expecting me to travel 40 miles round trip on my valuable time and have the rubber removed at MY expense. Now you EXPECT to have center caps. Very demanding for someone who got a hell of a deal to start with. You wanted rims, you got rims. YOU never mentioned center caps.

The caps went back on the car the rims came off of.

And lastly, THE EBAY LINK I SENT YOU WAS NOT MY AUCTION!!! You assume way too much.

If you are unhappy and want your money back, return the rims/tires in exactly the same condition they were sent. No questions asked. I'm not hard to deal with at all (until provoked) but don't start demanding things like you did. I was going to just send you a set, but not now. It's the principle of it...

I would NOT expect the center caps to come with any wheel purchase unless it was discussed prepurchase. It's one of those added expenses.

If you want nice caps, in most cases (unless you are buying direct) they will not come with them.

i did get what i paid for for wheels 3 of which werent in good condition nor stated that the clear coat was all discolored, tires which were all dry rotted. i asked you if you could take the tires off and you said it would be more of a hassle then it was worth, fine...i didnt ask you to pay for half the shipping. my appologies with the ebay auction i saw it was an email through ebay with your name in the title so i thought it was yours. sorry. i never thought i would have to mention center caps because as far as im concerned when you buy wheels it includes the center cap which is part of the wheel. i guess you porsche people do things differently then the rest of the world
