I think the original console is the most dated part of the 928 so im working on some ideas to update the look without changing things up too much.
As little modification as possible. So i was thinking about a plate something nice either fiberglass or maybe even a nice wood finnish that could be placed on to of the original console. Something that could be configured to hold the stock components and maybe a navigation screen or whatever. Any opinions on the feasability of such a component? any ideas or opinions?

Intriguing idea. Extra points for originality. How does this relate to a fully articulated rotor head?

I'm trying t figure out a way to put in a 2-din head unit and sill have it look mostly stock. My next door neighbor works for Lear (big automotive interiors company). Gonna try and bribe him this week to figure out the best way to do it. I was thinking fiberglass, but I don't think you can get a stock looking finish. Does anyone here know how to get that factory finish look?

Im looking for a elegant more modern look something like the dash shown below. My concern is with the stock components. Can they be extended out of the stock console frame?
Am I barking up the wrong tree?

The biggest challenge is how to deal with those bulky HVAC controls and their outdated graphics.. If some electronics genius could build a replacement that operates with ***** or digitaly as they do in modern cars, that would solve half of the console issue.
At the very least we now have the option to "unite" some of the console elements through trim overlalys that cover some of the gaps between them.

Forgot who customized their center console this way but I prefer to drop the HVAC controller to the bottom and raise the audio entertainment center.
Once I set the temp and fan speed, I find out I do not need to fiddle with the HVAC.
The space under the center vents would work well for a double din unit for audio and GPS display.

Its good that people are trying things, but Porsche design is a hard act to follow. Anybody remember the radio's in some European cars that sat about where the cassette holder is and faced forward, idea being you operated them by touch while driving.

piccardo...I am already there! I just have a couple more components to acquire before I tear into the console. I should be in it this weekend. Glad I got the creative juices (not juice machine) started. I believe it is dated as well....my previous post should have made that pretty clear.
I too would like to eliminate the recess of the console and believe I have an idea as to how to do it. I cannot explain it until I actually commence with the change.
However, the double DIN CAN be done without mods. I know it can. I am just not sure if I want that look.
The wood veneer (or even carbon fiber) is not what I am looking for. Raising the components up "flush" with a "flush" face plate is easy. You will even have more room to make things fit where you want them to.
At this time, I just need to find the paper thin vinyl that they use for vacuum forming the trim. It doesn't even have to be the same stuff, just some vinyl with no fiber backing. This can be adhered to a fiberglass trim piece. I thought a lot about this in the last couple of weeks and I have it envisioned in my head. I even thought about matching the grey of my interior, but I had decided that it needs to remain black.
BTW, CONVEX will not work too well as the top of the console edges will not flow with the "humped" look. The edges are flat...I already checked this out and had the same idea.![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
