IDEA FOR NEW CENTER CONSOLE

I hope it all works out. This will be interesting. Just a thought but why not pick up a used center console hopefully cheap to "practice" on first. If everything works, you could even dye the experiment console and keep the original if you ever wanted to go back to stock.

Keith,
The transformer is actually just a giant inductor (note it only has 3 terminals) it also has a diode voltage protector to ground built in. This is the suppressor for the radio / head unit.
In an interesting bit of German translation it is sometimes referred to in the schematics as the "Throttle" (= choke... presumably?). You can relocate it anywhere and even replace with a smaller encapsulated equivalent version.

Geez..it's just a filter? OUTTA HERE! I'll have to drill it out since it is riveted into amounting plate. I will have to read the manual of the AVIC as it probably has an internal supressor within itself. I will have a few wires to bury since I will not be using the CD changer or the power amp. I think the AVIC has a sufficient amount of power to begin with. I will eventually change out all of the speakers and install a sub and seperate power amp, but I'm not concerned with that right now.
BTW, this brings up another item. One of the reasons I went with the AVIC is because it is SIRIIUS/XM ready. I hate AM/FM these days, so dealing with the same frequency issues is not in the mix with satillite. To take it a step further, I see no use to keep the roof antenna since I have no interest in local radio. I now have to locate antenna's for the GPS and the satillite radio. The problem there is the foolish looking square antenna's from these two units. I may as well use this hole in the roof to run the wires through for these new ones. A grommet should do it. However, are there other antennas I ccould use in place of these square things? I will post pics of them later. I know some newer cars have the SHARK FIN lookiing antenna's. Would this work in place of one or both of them?
The GPS/satillite antenna may be able to be mounted inside of the car.(I THINK!)
Comments on this plesae.
And, any thoughts on what I had mentioned previously on relocating the actuator pod?

Keith,
I've got the GPS antenna on the top left corner (behind driver) on the inside of the rear glass. At that steep angle, the antenna is hidden behind the rear visor if you can crank you neck that far. The roof may block any satellite signal that's at a very low angle coming from the front of the car. Haven't had too many problems with satellite lock. Used the high strength (3M Dual Lock) velcro type tape to attach the GPS antenna to the glass.
By chance I was playing around with XM antenna at the back of the car. Thought about mounting the wart on the S4 wing. Then found my quarter panel rear speaker grill to be ferrous so I've had the satellite radio antenna ever since. Antenna magnet was strong enough grip onto the speaker grille but didn't seem to affect the powerful magnetic field of the 4" speaker. It's all rear fill from speakers that far back anyways.
Not as effective as a rear rooftop antenna location but I've only had the antenna on the roof for a few weeks. Didn't trust the antenna base to not scratch the paint.
And I don't have to worry about vandalism with the antenna inside the hatch.
Wires wires everywhere.

Keith the little square GPS antenna works fine on the dash near the drivers A pillar snugged up to the glass - due to the rake of the windshield it gets a clearview of the sky in all directions and I'm just about always @ 8 satellites received. Assuming its a black antenna on black dash it virtually dissappears...
Seems there are folks working on multi-antennas feed but not all combos are available - before you buy - think about what you may need and which need to be combined? Phone(GSM)/Sat Radio/Sat Nav/FRS/CB/Radio Broadcast/TV Broadcast?
You can't do all this on just one but you can possibly combine several of them or split across 2 antennas.

Unfortunately since most of these aren't developed in the US they are not optimized for USA GSM Phone frequencies (which are of course different than the whole of the rest of the world). Some of these at least cover the 850Mhz band in the US - usually not the 800/1900Mhz band though.
Try:

Thanks Alan, I did some checking around and found the following. I think I may post in OT to see what else is out there.
Triplex
Item no.:GA-GS-206
Frequency: GPS 1,575MHz+/-3MHz
Band width: +/-5MHz
Impedance: 50Ω
SWIR: 1.5:1
Gain: >3dB
Cable: RG174
Frequency: GSM 890-960MHz, 1,710-1,990MHz
Impedance: 50Ω
SWIR: <2
Gain: 2.15dB
Cable: RG174
Frequency: 76-110MHz (FM), 525-1,700MHz (AM)
Gain: +20dB (FM), +5dB (AM)
Impedance: 75Ω
Cable: 3C-2V
Voltage: 10-14V
Cable length: 8''
Dia. of installation hole: diameter 15mm
No details on this one except-Car antenna can receive radio FM/AM/XM, GPS,
and GSM
At least there is hope. I could care less about a cell phone antenna. I just need to figure out if the antenna for XM vs. Sirius is any different. I have the Sirius antenna box for the AVIC unit where the "address" is held. I don't think it would matter if the antenna was used for XM or Sirius, just as long as it can receive satillite freq...right?

My understanding is that it will be Display - CD-Radio, DVD player, and iPod control unit. The car has manual transmission and a Strosek body conversion wtih pearl white paint.
HVAC controls will go into the glove box.
