Default If not a 928 then what?

A friend asked me last week why I love my 928 so much, after bsing for a bit about how great it was he asked me if the 928 had never been what car would you have only real req to his question is it would have to be under 40k (including used market under 40k).

Truth be told I couldn't think of any other car?

he suggested vettes as he views the 928 as the porsche corvettes....but never been a big fan (granted the lingenfelter is quite a monster). I like 911's but still no other car really compares for me? The only other car I'd really like (other than a 95 GTS) would be an aston martin vanquish (40k hahahhaha... not).

What would you buy as your primary sportscar given the above reqs?

It takes an odd cocktail of ingredients to make me willing to drive an older car. I might buy a 944T or 911, maybe a jag, but good chance I might just buy point A to point B type vehicles. My wife likes her Continental, and generally its the family car, but its a fairly generic "nice big sedan".

93-98 TT Supra will decimate all. Can get a 6 speed for 25k and mildly modded (exhaust and boost controler) make 400rwhp... Stock twins can make 500rwhp plus tons of aftermarket. They also come with fantastic suspension and big brakes. http://www.mkiv.com/

I'm a huge Aston Martin fan myself. The Vanquish is nice, as is the DB9 but personally I really like the V8 Vantage as it’s got allot of what I love about the Shark and is the only AM with a hatchback. But at the current pricing I'd have to go with an older used one.

Here is a stunning beauty for sale locally for $54K.

A 1979 Aston Martin Vantage Silver with a red interior.

Other than that I'd say I've always loved the body of Challengers & Cudas. Almost purchased a triple black 70 Challenger about 7-8 years ago with a 383ci. Almost perfect example but I just couldn't get my finances in order.

Good ???

With the $40K rule........I would have to drive a 996 911.....since used ones are around that range.....I drove an 04 VW R32.....great car...fun to drive, comfortable with good power....but heard they understeer someting fierce at the track.....but if there was no 928 I think I would get an older NSX

Easy for me: No 928, no second car. Because I really don't need one.

There simply isn't anything else that has the performance and utility of the 928. Flog it at the track & drive it to the hardware store.

Recline the passenger's seatback and you can fit an 8' x 10' oriental carpet entirely inside the car - with the hatch closed! Try that in a F-car, NSX, or Corvette!

Four mounted "sticky" tires also fit inside the car. Makes a fairly good pick-up truck substitute.

One of the AMG Merc estates I think. Or an Audi RS2/4/6. Maybe an ML55 AMG.

In 1997 I almost sold my 944S for a LeMans Blue 427 1969 Corvette. At the same time a friend of mine was selling a mint 1990 Corvette I would have also picked up.

So if not 928's, I would have a small Corvette collection. Looking back, that 69 is now worth enough to sell and buy a good GTS driver.

Not a huge Corvette fan but I would have to add to my list the 63-67 C2's. Obviously $40 grand cap would limit what I could get but I've always liked that body style. Next on the list would have to be the early 90's (93 being the best I think) ZR1 Beast with it's 32v monster motor.

A well sorted/ modded 951- Guards Red, an Acura NSX, or a Ferrari 308 Quatrovalvole (Red, of course).
