Bummer, H. Think of them as randomized oil grooves, designed to induce Brownian motion in the oil flow, keeping the additives all mixed up like they're supposed to be.

Brownie in motion stays in motion, unless acted upon by a cub scout!

Heinrich,

Dude, that sucks. I can't think of a part on the car that is more critical to be pristine.

Andre,
I'll be double-bubble wrapping that part before it goes out later today .

That sucks, it doesn't surprise me though with something I saw recently

Flew to Florida on business and Delta had some cargo on there that wasn't someone's luggage (great way to ship large things quickly for not a ton of money) and we noticed the baggage (man)handlers unloading them with the care one might give to an empty box on fire! The kicker is that on EVERY side of the box is said "LIVE TROPICAL FISH, HANDLE WITH EXTREME CARE" it's not much more effort to do it correctly, but so many of these guys in the shipping business (Teamsters?) don't give a damn about how valuable, rare, delicate, etc. your package is, they are most concerned with getting their breaks.

No big deal...but I have worked for UPS for 15 years, you would not believe the damages that come from improper packing. Those bearings were most likely stacked on top of one another(metal-to-metal). Processing millions of packages a day, some are bound to get damaged. You name it, I've seen it. Nuts and bolts in envelopes, Engines in rice-paper boxes, torque converter in manila envelope, alligator head in a large Tupperware container that leaked all over everything. As long as you properly pack it, 99% of the time it will survive. No Teamsters in the airline handling, another union.

Well, some people don't give a rats, they live their whole life like that. I've got to say that Porsche also packages things crap. I bought 3 rear spoilers before I got a good one, that must cost them a fortune when that stuff happens.

Personally my feedback on Ebay always says great packaging, another Rennlist member Dozman has the most incredible packaging. Double boxed, bubble wrapped, hot glued, you name it he has it protecting the goods. I've got to say that if he has kids they will hate him at Birthdays and Christmas times, "Dad" they will scream, it doesn't need that much packaging! It will be my next Birthday before I get it open!

Cheers Greg

Went to pick up Moldex crank some weeks ago from airport customs warehouse. Was really surprised to see just cardboard box which was barely bigger than crank itself. There were few extra pieces of cardboard inside at all sides but that was all. It wasn't even greased, dry as a bone in fact. Seems like it survived without any problems. At least there are no visible signs of anything.

I'm lucky in that I work in a foam manufacturing plant... I shipped out some prototypes yesterday, and I cut a special block of foam to fit precisely around them and in the box... I often make special shippers for my own stuff or ebay sales... like the Ohlins I'm sending out today for a revalve.

Weird to work in a place that makes two semi trailers full of "scrap" foam a day! But 100% of that is ground and put into carpet pad...

Sorry to see that happen. Had a similar issue last year. I had to send back the first set of bearings I bought for an engine last year due to them destroying each other. The worst I've had though was a local race shop decked a head for me. They put the head in a box, without cardboard on the machined surface, and on top of all the spark plugs.

Has anyone tried using that spray insulation to fill around a critical part being shipped? I suppose that would shock-insulate as well as anything else.

When I was selling stuff on eBay that was fragile, I had UPS package it for me. Inevitably, UPS, FedEx, etc. will claim that damage is PROOF that something was not packaged properly and deny any insurance claim. Having them do the packaging removed this possibility. It cost more, but I figured it was part of the price of insuring the shipment. Zero damage, zero complaints doing it this way.

Those pictures make me sad.
