Thumbs up SOLD ! : Rare Z-box Sub enclosure - SOLD !

Please see link HERE : https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...41#post3766641

AD duplicated here (because I think there is interest in a group buy, to replicate this piece.....please note...I am only selling the one piece (that is all I have)....but other members can proceed and do what they want to share this unit) .....hope that makes sense.

----AD-----AD-----AD-----AD----AD----AD---AD----

ITEM :
This is really a one-of-a-kind item....and VERY VERY UNIQUE FOR 928 OWNERS . It is a BRAND NEW sub-box enclosure. Never used.

It was manufactured in early 1990's by Z-box - who made custom enclosures for Porsches - All very good quality.

For an install in a 928 on RL..... GO TO THIS THREAD : https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ight=enclosure

SUB BOX :
The enlosure is perfectly made to accept either one large speaker or two smaller speakers.... after this is connected to your system, it is covered in leather, vinyl, or fabric (easy), (or painted to match the body color!) and fits perfectly in the trunk, even has cut outs built in for going around the latch mechanism !

WHY AM I SELLING IT ?
It looks great....my brother had bought 2 of them (installed one) and kept the other one for a future project.

I am unloading this piece here for a really good price because I want it to go to a Rennlist user/enthusiast!! And...I don't want to deal with ebay...but will put it up there if there are no takers.

SELLING PRICE :

For comparison :
- This same box sold on ebay canada for 1,100 canadian
- Also, much more inferior sub-enclosures being used in the 928 are going for $250-500
- Also saw a 911 Z-box going for over $1000 as well (admittedly, a little more custom than the 928 units,.....but just added for reference)

--> Asking $500 NOW $400 plus shipping. first come first serve....I guarantee this will not come around soon again.....and I also suggest the person who buys it, consider making a mold so other 928 owners can share in this piece! It really is a must have for anyone with a 928 and wants something above a tin-can radio sound in the car (I personally prefer a nice exhaust sound...but I digress....)

--> Also, available for pickup in New York (but I would consider delivery in Maryland, just because I live there now)

** please keep in mind, I am really trying to give some porsche stuff away to the RL community, if you look at my other threads being posted... this really is a good price.... I rather give it to an enthusiast here than put it on ebay **

PICS :
--> the last pic was of the install (from the above linked thread) by member airosey (and please note, he was missing the speaker grill that I am including)

I don't know if I'm the only one thinking this, but where would one put the tools, spare bulbs, etc? On long trips of course I have a separate toolbag, but the factory toolset offers some peace of mind IMHO...

I do not have a 928 in front of me to demonstrate with pictures, but as I remember, this slides into place easily, it is contoured perfectly to the rear of the 928. (I am assuming the tools are in the rear wall of the 928 hatch....is that right?) and either the tools have to be located elsewhere, or this unit just slides over the existing space.

I know another member did the install, but he chose to remove the toolkit from that location.

This would be really cool, and it looks good when installed. I'm just not sure I want to spend $400 on this, plus the price of covering it. It would be nice if somebody could start replicating these, maybe with a spot for the sub on both sides, rather than one.

Also, it would not be possible to keep the toolkit in place, it runs all the way along the back, and as you can see in this picture, there would be no room.

Although, I am considering putting a sub in my spare tire well, so either way something has to go.

The tools are stored in the piece that you propose replacing with that subwoofer box. The spare bulb carrier and safety triangle(for the few that have one) fit in the space taken up by the space immediately behind the driver in your design.

thanks for getting that answer, could not remember how the toolkit attaches to the rear....

I would also echo what you said....this looks (and sounds) really good in a 928 . Another brother of mine, bought the z-box side inserts for the 911, which go on the sides of the rear passenger seats....and it is such an amazing difference.

--> another comment about covering this unit, it is not expensive or difficult to cover in fabric or vinyl. I think it would actually look better covered in the color of the carpet. In fact, what would look really nice (not everyone's taste), but bring it to a body shop to paint it the same color as the body !!
(just thinking out loud - might regret the "painting idea" tomorrow)

--> Also, I like the idea of creating a double-sub box or at least replicating this for others. I cannot do this because I do not have the time.

Lastly, just a reminder that this piece originally costs upwards of $8-900 (just double checked) and it is not available anymore. I know there is someone that wants this perfect piece to compliment their stereo or 928.

I need a couple of drinks....you 928 guys/gals are a tough crowd!

Alf,

You're right, it's a tough sell because it's a real 'niche' item.

Those of us who want stock (or close) probably just want a unit, not to go into business making them. Those of us who like to do mods don't want someone telling us what it should look like .

Just my .02 (no charge for the bump).

Default z-box

I used to own a stereo shop and am familiar with this piece. They are pretty cool, do replace the tool kit trim piece. They only have the speaker on one side to allow spare tire access with the sub in place. According to the Orion car stereo blue book these sold for $600 new. I know of one locally and have spoke to him about replicating. I'm not sure how much interest there would be, it's a pretty narrow market. My next project is a few different fiberglass sub enclosures for the 928, but probably not until spring. This unit takes one 8" woofer, by the way. One advantage to this sub box is that it bolts in place in existing locations

Hey, cool! Now I finally know where the toolbox is. And now I know I have one in my car.

Except that it's covering the carpet, you might not have to remove it entirely, but it's still not that clear of a shot at the spare.

I am purposely "reserving my "bumps" for a later time" so will use this opportunity to answer this.....

--> this unit is not made to be bolted into place or glued into place.
It is a perfect pressure fit (look at all the contours and edges...its really perfect!)
. Also if you look carefull the bottom edge has space, and does not fully cover the bottom of the trunk...I believe this is so it is possible to remove the carpet with the box still in place....

and then, when you need to move it out of the way - or need more storage space - it will just pop right out. (It is not heavy either.)

These are very important points :

1. It looks much better than other sub-box solutions - has a curved look, perfect fit, and nice design
2. it is a "prefect" sub enclosure (for 8" subs...thanks dpower$ to make that clear) - for pure bass sound
and 3. it is entirely removable and non permanent solution !

I don't think you will get better than that. The quality of the product alone is worth the $$, forget about all the other uniqueness of it!
