I am planning on installing a kickdown switch on my 96.5 928S. Seen many threads about how to do it and even switch types but never where is the best place to install it (many references to just behind the parking brake).
I don't have a sunroof and therefore I have an empty slot on my console (right next to the power window buttons) is it a good place?
Other: is the kickdown switch only connected to the transmission? there isn't any connections to the injection system? There are no side effects to using it?

The kickdown bypass switch is wired across the two leads running to the true kickdown switch located behind the throttle pedal: when the new switch is closed, the transmission reacts as if the throttle is fully depressed (WOT) - and promotes downshifts much easier at part throttle.
I install a toggle switch (SPST) low and to the front of the cover for the handbrake lever: this way, the switch is at the fingertip when the hand is on the brake lever - and is protected from foot traffic by the brake lever .....

The best (ideal) spot would be wired to a button an a momo steering wheel that you could hit with your right thumb while driving w/o removing your hand from the wheel.. Some momo wheels come with 2 such buttons.
The other side button could be a trigger for a nitrous injection. Bond, James Bond.

Since I don't smoke, I fabricated a mounting plate in the ashtray compartment. It's a nice spot because the toggle switch is hidden when the ashtray door is closed.

It's a momentary switch. A pushbutton on the top of the shifter handle causes two contacts to close, which then close a relay. The relay contacts are wired in parallel with the "real" kickdown switch. There is no visual indicator, just a sudden feeling of exhilaration.

best place for this besides the gas pedal where it is supposed to be is on the dead pedal area. that way you dont spend time fumbling around on the steering wheel or gear ***. you just reach over with your clutch foot and press.
