Default S4 Temp 1

Having owned a '86 "S" MY 928 I thought I knew where to find the Temp 1 sensor. Of course Porsche had a "better idea" and apparently relocated it on the '87 "S4" MY. Can someone help me out and identify the new location of the thing???

You mean the intake air thermoswitch? It's 2 on this figure, courtesy of Tony Harkin.

Temp 1 is not the same as the thermo switch. Temp 1 is a thermistor, the thermo switch is a ......temperature switch.

Temp 1 which measured inlet air temp was deamed not necessary with the more capable ECUs fitted to the > 87.

The thermo switch just switches on the engine fans if manifold temp rises above about 90degC (even when igntion is off.

Oh, jeez, we just went through that about a week ago. Thanks, John. I have either selective or failing memory. Once the cars were fitted with knock sensors in 87, the temp 1 sensor, which retarded timing at high intake temperatures, was eliminated. The other switch, which I pointed out, relates to fan control. Nevermind.

Hi Bill,
Well your memory is better than mine as I couldn't readily remember the exact reason why Temp 1 was no longer needed :-)

OMG - I just noticed this is post # 2001.......!!

OK... thanks girls!

Now.................

Is this "thermo-switch" necessary on a twin-screwed induction system?

If so, where do you recommend that it is mounted?

(I was going to ask "Where do you recommend that I put it?" but I'm getting smarter than that! )
