Default Head gasket

I am a very frequent reader, although I don't post much, an I have a question. My ride (week-ends) is an 88 s4 with a five speed that I love. I have used advise from this site to replace motor mounts, steering rack and so much more Now I need a little more advise. I have an 94 Jag XJ6 and need to replace the head gasket (DOHC In-line 6) and was wondering if any body knew of a good tech area to use as a guide? I have a service manual and not really worried about doing the job but figure the more info the better.

Now before you ask why not go to a Jaguar forum? Simple, they SUCK! Nobody ever gets back to your posts.

Thanks all.

Maybe they have been sucked in past the "event horizon" and are forever stuck working on their cars....

I put a post on a couple of BMW forums for a friend, just one reply saying "sorry I can't help". We really are blessed with Rennlist - yet another reason to become a member.

Whats the betting you need to have the head planed also. An old friend of mine had a few XJ6's with the 4.2 engine. He also had a large collection of heads that were warped beyond repair - when I last had a beer with him he was still ruminating on some possible way of unbending the heads.

A standard repair method for an aluminum head is to bolt it to a rigid steel fixture, heat it and let it cool. Shims are used to apply additional force to straighten the head.
