It takes a lot to put on such an event , something simple like like coffee and doughnuts on Saturday becomes 84 doughnuts , 36 muffins, 120 cookies couple gallons of O J , milk , 1/2 1/2, creamer and we still ran out ! I did take a "day off" and took my wife to Del Mar on Sunday and looks like I missed out on a nice exhibit. The Amazon Brazilian BBQ Saturday night gave me a chance to sample alligator and Quail but I think the best was the lamb.... I know I had a good time good to hear others did as well.

To borrow and reiterate the true words of Erik Behrendsen, "It's the 928 that brings us together, but it's the people that bring us back!"

Here is my picture contribution for this year (some fun-drive pics courtesy of co-pilot Amy Lee):

Sharktoberfest 2006 - Day 1

Sharktoberfest 2006 - Day 2

I took many pics at the Astor Automotive Museum, but the ones I'm sharing publicly are mostly of attendees oogling or posing with the cars and other interesting shots. It's too bad more people could not join us to see this amazing collection of automobile, radio, television, and telephone history. I urge everyone to make the time to attend the events scheduled in future years. There are always special surprises that must be experienced first-hand.

P.S. - Tony, that's one lucky kid!!!

Joe,
Great stuff. Are you going to make another SF 06 DVD like you did for SF 05?? If so, please put me on the list. Thanks in advance.

Larry and to all others interested in a DVD,

I'm very sorry that my schedule did not allow time to produce a new 2006 DVD.

I'm thinking that I'll do a collection of 2006 and 2007 928 events pictures and movies for a 2007 DVD.

Don't hold me to it, but that's what I'll be aiming for.

Default Sharktoberfest Thanks

Hey gang, I've posted photos on sharktoberfest.com and the event recap from the site as well:

Thanks to everyone who came out for this year's SF'06 event - thank you ALL for attending. We especially appreciate those of you who traveled great distances to take part in the festivities, particularly our 928 friends from as far away as the Pacific Northwest, NORCAL region, the Arizona Gang, Dallas/Fort Worth and our Wichita, Kansas buddies. It was great to see you again!

The weather warmed up nicely for the event weekend without being too toasty and we had brilliant sunshine each of the three days. We had a reserved parking area coned off at the hotel and wash supplies were put out for those needing to clean up. The Friday evening reception enabled attendees to put faces to names and reconnect with 928 friends. And as usual, it would not be Sharktoberfest unless the entire affair was haunted by the custom-carved 928 foam pumpkin!

928 International had their facilities ready for the gathering crowds with lots of breakfast goodies. The 928 Owners Club graciously sponsored the event with an allocation of cool event T-shirts, manufactured by Betsy Andrade and Executive Sales. If you are not a member of the 928OC, consider joining today to help us all keep our 928s on the road. SOCAL928 was handing out free SF'05 hats and asking for small donations to the club's Sharktoberfest expenses in exchange for SOCAL928 T-shirts as well as high quality SF'05 polo shirts. Other kid's shirts were made available by 928 International and Electronik Repair came through with mini flashlights for everyone. Vendors 928 Motorsports and Hooked on Cars were on hand doing a brisk business while 928 International completed Will Call orders and cut keys for those in need.

The tech sessions were more casual this year to give more of an emphasis to socializing around the cars, which is what most folks want to do (and did) anyway. Thanks goes out to Bill Wilson for conducting a technical session on the Sharktuner and for Bill Ball for lending his car as the guinea pig (after a needed swap of the O2 sensor executed by Rob). Bill's Koenig widebody stole the show and had a crowd around it all day.

By noon time, we were all ready for some lunch, which was graciously provided by 928 International, as well as set out and organized by 928 International volunteers. Thanks to those of you who were kind enough to register for the event on the website, as our headcount for lunch was very accurate, so this registration strategy worked like a charm. The beef brisquet from nearby Blake's Place was fantastic!

During the early afternoon, there was more gawking and socializing around the many 928 customs that were on display, many with custom body work, interior work, superchargers and more. Randy V. brought out his unique brand of hospitality and quenched the thirst of many needy sharksters throughout the warm Saturday. Thanks, Randy!

By around 3:00, we gathered for the Fun Tour departure to a route that featured famous Glendora Mountain and Glendora Ridge Roads. Glendora Ridge is a bit hairy in that it has no striping for most of its length, so advisories were given and we hit the freeways. Part of the group got separated on the way, but we gathered again at the base of the hill prior to the run so we could take it as a group.

We hit some traffic but still enjoyed many tight twists and turns until the group was forced to stop in the middle of the route. One of the cars got into some gravel and when accelerating, got sideways and plowed into a dirt berm on the shoulder! With the help of the assembled 928 crowd, the red 928S was pushed and pulled out of the soft dirt. There was minor damage and Ed was able to continue on his way (sans a couple of belts) and he even participated in the rest of the weekend's events, but the marks the in the berm show just how close we came to having this be much, much worse. Food for thought for the next one, gang...

Jim Bailey suggested the excellent Amazon BBQ for our Saturday night's dinner and we all enjoyed the Brazilian style buffet with an amazing selection of all-you-can eat meats, some of them exotic (gator was good!). Thanks to Executive Sales and Hooked on Cars for the door prizes we were able to distribute Saturday night. And a huge thank you goes to Rich Andrade at Electronik Repair for his very generous door prize donation of LH brain rebuild services, valued at $600! Barry from Bakersfield was the lucky winner. Congratulations, Barry!

Thank you to 928 Motorsports and Hooked on Cars for coming out and doing their vending. It's always great to see these valued members of our community bringing us their valued wares.

Thanks again is due to Mark Anderson, owner of 928 International, his wife Renee and son Scott as well as Jim Bailey and the rest of the 928 International crew. They did a great job in preparing the facility for the event and keeping it stocked throughout as well as taking and filling orders all the while. Thanks also go out to Joe Privitelli of SOCAL928 for helping with the event arrangements prior to and throughout Sharktoberfest and for suggesting and starting things off with Astor Classics when the arrangements for the Barris visit were not working out. Thanks as well to Jerry Germeau for his help wrangling donations at the event table, along with Barb Thomas. Without all your help, Sharktoberfest would not be possible. And finally, a thanks to all of you who donated a bit of extra cash to help offset SOCAL928s expenses, including Mark Anderson who smoothed out the Saturday night dinner tab and the Erdmanns who bought me lunch on Sunday. Thank you for your kindess and generosity.

Now, what you've been waiting for - the official counts drumroll please):
Though we had people and cars flowing in and out throughout the day, the hard surveyed, offical count for the Saturday Main Event is as follows:
109 people, 92 cars to go along with 30+ and 40+ on the Fun Tour and Astor Classics visit respectively.

It's a pleasure to put on an event for such an enthusiastic group. Thanks to everyone for coming and we'll see you at the next event!

Dan I was rather sad to hear I could not buy a shirt, that only limited few had been made and handed out first-come. Are you making more?

Hi Heinrich,
There are no plans to make more event T-shirts. We have learned the hard way that while some like to buy these things, most simply will not.

We produced as many shirts as the 928OC's contribution could fund (about 50) and they did go fast, what with the attractive price.

How many prepaid orders do you need to make another run of shirts?

Cool, my car made it to the official 928 intl sharktoberfest website "cars for sale always draw a crowd" Although i think the crowd at that point was there to help diagnose a noise.

Glad i made it, in retrospect i wish i stuck around for the fun run.

Sorry I missed this year's event -- sounds like it was a lot of fun(as if I would expect anything less...) Next year, if you take pre-orders for shirts, I will happily buy at least one. In fact, I'd pre-order it now, just name the price.

Got back to Denver from Sharktoberfest, Saturday night after a short stay in San Diego and wanted to thank all of the people who who organize, support and participate in Sarktoberfest. These events offer the 928 owner the opportunity to meet other owners and listers and to have a great time.
By the way after spending 2 years putting my car back together, she ran flawlessly for 2500 miles.
Hope to see all of you next year.

Will Amy's eyesight ever return to normal after the countless hours in front of the video editing console? Tune in next week to find out the answer to this and other event questions...

Sorry I missed the event. But I had a good excuse. Really. Karen and I joined a bunch of friends for a cruise around French Polynesia and the Cook Islands in the south Pacific. No phones, no internet, no driving at all. I love you all, but it wasn't that tough a choice. A month ago, Mark/Jim/Tom all 'volunteered' to go for me so I could enjoy Sharktoberfest. So I made the popular choice.

Looking forward to the movie!

Default Video now available!

Hello Rennlisters!

I had a really good time at Sharktoberfest and I think that's a credit to the organizers and all the wonderful people that showed up. I hope you didn't mind my little camera clicking away to take some pictures of the event. Anyways, if you'd like to relive the weekend, you can watch it on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U46hpqFidw4

YouTube is a bit low-quality and a higher quality version will be available shortly at:

http://porsche.ani-web.com/

Thank you to Joe Privitelli and Nicole Mossinger for not only being awesome drivers but good friends. They made this possible!

See ya!

Hi Amy:

You did another awesome job with this video. Watching it, I'm ready to pack and go again...

Now that you have become part of the "928-family", I hope you'll join us for many more 928-events.

Keep up the good work, and see you soon!
