It has always been a pleasure to host Sharktoberfest and we will continue to do so as long as everyone enjoys it. Also if you can think of anything that will make it even better for next year PM me and I will see what I can do.

had a great time again thx to mark and the whole gang at 928 intl for working and hosting while we goofed off oh wait, that happens every day, hehehe...

food and company were great too, socal 928 did another awesome event... some of you folks have the nicest examples of sharks I've ever seen/imagined - whoo hoo!! pics dont do them justice, imho

that fun ride though... ugh. too much dirt, road rocks and dust for my tastes, so to speak... kinda wondered what we were heading into when all I saw coming the other way were dirt bikes and 4x4's.... by the 2/3 point it looked like a scene from "U-Turn" (the car version of Deliverance) - at least 4 hoods were up, folks standing around in either awe of the views or disbelief of all the carnage/near disaster... at least 1 shark was in "limp" mode... group kinda disintegrated after that with folks leaving in small groups... saw a few wandering around at the "endpoint"... at least we didn't get attacked by toothless mutant cannibals though, ha!

should have my front clip re-painted and road rock trashed rim repaired in time for the next one though

pic 1 - sharks basking in the sun
pic 2 - 928 homeless folks getting a free meal after emptying their wallets for more parts...or was it just homeless folks that smelled the great food and wandered in??

Tom and I made it back to WA safe and sound. All that way and not once did we feed the bears!! Thanks to the V1!!! At one point on the trip down it gave us a warning for ka and we traveled 3.5 miles before actually encountering the revenue collector!!

I had a great time this year, I refused to do any wrenching, like I did last year, and just enjoyed meeting the people and talking 928s. I'm amazed at what a fantastic group the 928 community is!! Even the ones who we don't see here on rennlist.

Thanks to all who made this happen and to everyone for showing up!!

I'll get some pics up later...

Yep....home safe and sound.......and thanks to Shane with his "V1"...no tickeee.... That V1 continues to amaze me with it's range....when I save up my pennies....that will be the one...

As far as the 928 goes.....ended up that my MAF is bad....disconnected it on the way home...and the driving characteristics didn't change.......still ran way rich....I was running two tanks to one of Shanes.....so about 10mpg.....

But you should see the black smoke screens I layed down hahaha.... anyway..car is home safe and sound.....and even with the rich running condition.....I still enjoyed the drive..

Special thanks to Dan Bise....dude...you rock...awesome event...same goes for Mark Anderson and crew....nice to see you again Nicole..and thanks for the 928 books..(Nicole even signed her article for me ) ...
To anyone that couldn't make it down this year...plan ahead......everything was simply awesome...

Props to the Astor classic museum too.....lots of really unique cars...phones, old radios,...lionel trains...I think there was something of everything in there.. even a 928 phone haha....

Special thanks to Jerry Germeau for stepping up to the plate to man the shirt and hat table....helping to fund the event....

Awesome awesome....can't wait to sort through my pics....

Later,
Tom

P.S. Saw a very unique 86.5 at Sharktoberfest too...special order...5sp...lsd....NO SUNROOF......cloth interior..just an amazing example of a one owner ....I was talking to the owner who wanted to sell it (15K)...but I think they changed their minds after everyone started talking about how unique this car was...haha...

Thanks for the concern Dave, but as Alan said, it wasn't me... fortunately! My wife passed on the fun run, so I was afraid word would get back to the hotel that a red 928 with only one guy in the car was involved in "minor" incident and she would freak out! Fun run route was definitely a blast, but too much traffic for me

Always nice to see old friends and meet new ones. It's great to put faces with names on rennlist. Made the trip with the new motor and it was perfect! Now have a little over 1000 miles on it so time for an oil change and TB retension.

Mike... that was you in the M3 with the camera?!? Sorry I didn't realize... Yes, that's my GT at the end of the photos in your first post, and I'd love to get a copy of it! Please let me know how to get one...

Just got back in tonight, took an extra day to relax and visit with our youngest daughter who recently moved to CA... I'll try and post some pics tomorrow.

Thanks Dan Bise, Joe P., the rest of SOCAL 928, Mark Anderson, Jim Bailey and 928 Intl. for another fantastic event. Awesome job guys!!!

nope, i was in the green 325. My friend was in the blue m3 (jworms who posted earlier on this thread). I downloaded all the originals off his camera, so PM me your email address and i'll send you what I got. If your email address can't handle large attachments, let me know in the PM and i'll send you links to download them off a server.

This goes for any pictures that you guys might be interested in... PM me and i'll get you the originals (3504x2336 resolution).

Rick, glad your wife didn't have to freak out. Whoever had the dirt sandwich, sorry to hear it! Hope the damage is minor and glad you're OK.

I spoke to Ed (I think that was his name) at the lunch after the Astor Classics Museum. He said he pictured his car upside down with his arms dangling outside..and all the faces of his 4 kids crossed his mind... So I guess it was a pretty serious event. I missed it as I was hanging back with my bad MAF issues.....

I also asked about his car and it seems to be OK with some minor damage... I'm not sure if he's on the list or not..but he is looking for Photo's that anyone took of his car near the cliff..If you've got them...I suppose you can post them here...and anyone who knows him can let him know about them..

later,
Tom

Ok here are some pics:

My wingman and I got seperated north of Portland, Tom took I-5 and I took I-205, so I stopped here to let him catch up.

My wingman arrives

We picked up a tagalong in Oregon through the Siskiyous', he managed to stay with us through some high speed twisties...

After finally clearing the LA traffic on I-5 we arrived at the Hotel. Only one other shark (white S4) beat us there. We went looking for a place to scrub the bugs off our sharks, and ended up at the target store where Tom bought a garden hose for the lower parking garage at the hotel. Here is a shot after we were all cleaned up and the sharks put to bed for the night.

Marc Whites' rental:

Tom mentioned the original owner '86.5 in Iris Blue Metallic that was for sale. It was in fine shape, and as Tom said I think we talked them out of selling. It was listed for 15k and I have the contact info if someone is interested.

Bill mentioned Rob (blownbeast) doing a O2 sensor install on his supercharged S4:

The fun run was a blast. Was not at all concerned as others about the dirt or gravel as I had no trouble avoiding it. I checked with Alan who was behind me in his GTS to make sure I hadn't thrown any gravel at his shark. We stopped somewhere up top for what I thought at first was just a rest stop and photo op, but turned into something else...

I thought this was an odd place to park at first, till I realized it wasn't by choice...

A shot of what could have been an alternative parking spot...

A shot of the life saving dirt berm...

We talked to him the next day and he managed to fix his fan belt and get his shark back road worthy. He mentioned that his front fenders were flared out some and that he had already ordered a set of euro fronts to replace them with. He said despite the off road experience that he had a great time and would be coming back next year...

I hope to be able to do the same, and schedule this event in every year. It is great to meet like minded individuals that understand my passion for these cars. It is wonderful to meet those who don't post here, they are sometimes a wealth of knowledge. I spent a lot of time getting tech tips from Rob (blownbeast).

For those who didn't make it this year for whatever reason, you gotta clear the schedule now and start saving those extra pennies or whatever, to make it possible for next year...

C'ya...
