At the crossbrace it's 35 7/8". At the rear of the motor, it's 37".

Remember you are only supporting half the engine weight as the other halp is supported by the car via the torque tube and gearbox. Maybe 300/400Lbs max.
Not strictly true - more like 95% of the engine weight.
based upon some top of the head weights and lengths
engine weight of 250kg and length of 0.8m
tt weight of 50kg and length 1.5m
gearbox can be ignored as it is balanced roughly on its mounts approx 0.4m behind the end of the tt

Take moments about gearbox mounts
Engine suppt reaction *(0.8+1.5+0.4m) = 250kg*(0.8/2+1.5+0.4m) + 50kg*(1.5/2+0.4)m
Engine supt reaction approx = 235kg.

Doesn't change the practical application of this method just need to be aware of the actual weights involved.
