Default Springs and Bushes

OK Folks a little advice please,

I put new shocks on about 5000 miles ago and to be honest the ride is still S**t I adjusted the ride height but the feeling is the springs have gone south, 150k miles on them. I put on OEM shocks i.e. Boge but, I think its time to replace and renew the whole suspension, i.e. new bushes, new springs etc. I see on the list that Eibach and Bilstein shocks are the way to go for most people. I have no probs sourcing the shocks but the springs well which ones? I checked Eibachs UK cataloge and no springs are listed for the 928 so anyone know which springs I need both front and rear. Sharkie is a 85 S2 Euro Auto.

Also in replacing all the bushes any comments. I am planing to replace all the bushes front back upper lower etc. I can either source most OEM ones or get Polyurethane ones which way to go? Comments would be appreciated.

Thanks folks.

Eibach springs for 928 - check 928 International.

Bushes - poly are OK, but some have been reported to split. With the front A-arm: stock bushes are not available except as part of the arm assembly. There are aftermarket poly uppers for all years, lowers for 85 and before. In fact, the lowers are from a guy in the UK. I don't have the link handy.

The factory rear bushes are available. You'll need a press to deal with them.

Thanks Bill for the reply.

Yes 928 Int sell them but I wanted to order them here in the UK as shipping for springs from the US to us here in the UK is a bit costly.

Unless I should simply contact 928 Int and ask for Eiback part numbers.

Yes I know of this guy here UK doing the Poly A arm bushes and its the ones I was planning on using as you say OEM ar not awailable and only the whole A arm from Porsche and that is lets say expensivo. For the others I can source OEM or Poly but I am interested in peoples experience here.

Again thanks.

.
Springs from 928INT + shipping +tax+ vat, probably = less than same brought in UK , almost guarantee it.
Work out shipping to find cheapest eg, USPS surface v USPS air v UPS or friend/ work colleague /relative on trip to USA

I just got 4 OEM Porsche springs from Germany via Sunset Porsche. They weighed 34 pounds and shipping was $20, though i'm sure they get a significant volume discount. I guess shipping from the States to the UK is a bit more dear?

Hi DrNick,

Which Leda settup has Alex got? I had a look at their Web Site and yes looks interesting.

Did you want a stiffer setup for track use mainly? How did you find the Bilstein/Eibach setup for normal every day use?

Thanks

Last week I shipped a #130 box that was 60"x60"x24" from the USA (MO) to Dublin, Ireland.

$217 including $3K insurance. Took about the same amount of time as UPS ground from LA to STL (5 days).

When I look at the prices in my UK mags, I understand why my UK friends buy everything the can mailorder. (The exchange rate helps too...)

i think the bilstein and eibach package is well balanced for a street driven 928. my driving has evolved through 928 ownership and my expectation of the car has changed along the way too. i still remember the difference in handling after upgrading the suspension with bilstein/eibach and poly bushes and it was enough to make me smile back then as time passed my confidence has improved and i now ask more from the car, and ive uprated things acordingly. the only real criticism i have of the eibach springs is the progressive nature but its a minor gripe at best. to be honest if i really am pressing on in the SE (bilstein and eibach) it copes very well indeed - sometimes finding grip more easily than on stiffer suspension.

if you are upgrading from a standard suspension you should be pleasantly impressed with the bilstein/eibach package especialy on the S2 which weighs less than the later cars, it will now feel like a sports car!

The Eibach springs for 928 which we sell at 928 International were made SPECIFICALY to fit the 928 and are NOT an on the shelf item at Eibach they only make them when we order 100 sets or so at a time we do sell them to other retailers as well. They work very well for sporty street driving as well as track use in the less modified classes.

Jim
Thanks for your answer it certainly explains why I can't find anything in the Eibach catalogs
So now a couple more questions do you have a reseller for them in the UK, if not I will check out the cost of shipping but any idea of what the approx weight would be for a full set of springs?

DrNick thanks for your comments and yes I think I will go down the Bilstein/Eiback route. A question still for you is where did you source your poly bushes from? I know of an Australian company that does almost a whole set for front and rear as well as some in the US.

I've heard good comments about the Australian source for the poly bushings. Do you have contact/website info for that company?

Well the company in Australia that I was thinking of was Fulcrum and their Super Pro bushes. I had checked about a year ago and they appeared to do most bushes for the 928 but now in their online catalog they only show the upper A arm ones. I've emailed them to check and will clarify once I get a reply.
